Recently picked up the 70-300VR and this was the first foray to the Zoo. Didn't get a lot of opportunities to shoot as I was chasing after a 5 year old .

Here are a few of mine from a previous visit to the zoo (back in 2005 with my trust D70). I think its time for a new visit!

I get depressed sometimes when I go to the Toronto zoo (don't even get me started about Marineland!!). Some of the beautiful creatures live, no exist, in rather bleak meagre conditions. that is what i tried to capture here:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/phil_marion/2948679006/" title="bored monkeys by Phil Marion, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3280/2948679006_8decc4cd6a_o.jpg" width="1100" height="713" alt="bored monkeys"></a>

Imagine swinging freely from tree to tree in a warm tropical rainforest abundant with fresh fruit, friends and oportunities to amuse oneself....and then living in a boring cold concrete HELL.

Adding some from the Sunday family trip to the Zoo. Surprisingly, many outdoor enclosures were still empty.

All these great zoo pics and the Nick Brandt tread makes me want to do an African safari trip! I even looked up tour groups just to get an idea of rates etc. Time to start saving! It ain't cheap!

I couldn't agree more. I can't (don't want to) imagine what happens to all those warm whether animals during the winter.
