I can't speak for admin/mods obviously but I think such rules are in place so that if the site were busier these rules would make sense. Right now they exist solely because there may one day be a need or if someone were to be truly abusive and spam the forum with their pics. Frankly, for a photography site there isn't a lot of pics posted here and the consistent posting by yourself piglet and anyone else who is a consistent poster would certainly be missed by me.

Honestly, it's to do with jealousy.

I think separating the photo sharing threads from the photography related threads is a great idea. Nice change. This fills the need to separate the 2.

So if the folks here really want to have the ability to post more than three images a week, then let us know here.

I believe fionah raises several good points. I particularly enjoy the Holga thread but would hate to see less of them. The photos are hosted externally, so that isn't an issue. I see no problem if one or 2 persons 'dominate' a given thread given the nature of some of these themes. Most people don't shoot holga, garbage, historic mills or abstract shots. These threads will probably be dominated by the few fine people that shoot these photos regardless of the limits. But I still enjoy viewing them.
I think many people here feel 3 images a week is too restrictive. A casual perusal of the threads will indicate people easily exceed that limit in a day or even in a single post. Perhaps people should also pipe in here if in favour of restricting the number of posts. Is there really a desire for this? Is there really a need? As a frequent poster in this and other forums I'd like to know if people are offended, put off, bothered by my posting more than 3 images a week.

I have to agree I see little reason for the restriction, after all we want to keep up a dialogue of images at all levels of experience. This is not the critique section so shouldn't be restricted other then to say give other people a chance before posting again.

Also in the past there has been a reluctance to moderate any thread why the change now? I'm sure moderators have better things to do then count the number of submissions.

There is an important reason to allow multiple images in a single post. Many times a sequence of images tells a strong story which can't be conveyed by a single image.

Hey PotatoEYE, I'm so sorry that you are offended by my dirty feet. I have no control over them, you see :P

I'm not sure how this one falls under jealousy ... not all of us are kids? In any case, people usually show their disapproval by just not visiting the thread anymore ... they lose interest. I fully agree with the discretion of flooding a post. However, if it's a only a few people are left entertained by it ... over time they will dominate a thread, which is just how it goes.

I think it's sad that some feel that they don't want to post images due to what they feel is a lack of skill or talent. This is for fun, and you learn from any feedback if you want to improve. Posting, regardless of where it is, should be about growing and risk. I think we are all very lucky that we have found something that we can all grow at different paces, and it's nice to see members on this forum improve over time. So if for no other reasons, we should all post once in awhile, so others can witness improvements ... I think it's kinda cool, that's what makes this board more of a community :)

...As for the Holga camera, it's cheap and very easy to operate and Urban Outfitters downtown carries them all the time so if you get one, I can give you a couple rolls of 120 film to start right away and then you can start flooding the Holga thread just like me.

WOW...an incredible selfless act of kindness from a stranger. Thank oh so very much for offering.
The cost of a Holga isn't prohibitive to me - it's the time needed to operate it.....urgh, need to make life changes!
Actually i am quite able to get holgaesque shots using my Canon G10 - unintentionally of course!

Thanks again for your sweet offer.

Well let it be said I like many other folks' photos too. But I'd describe it more as envy.

But I AM jealous that he has 2 or 3 cute dogs...and I want potatoEYE's sunglasses.

Anytime. I'm loaded with 120 film and I don't think I'll ever need to buy anymore :P

If you ever get a Holga, just let me know and I'll create an event for Fun With Holga

right now the themes section looks like a dump for both interesting and crap shots, would be great to limit it to good shots only :D

I would not call either of your stuff crap. I rate you two guys' photos the most in these sections. I find most photogs are able to do a few genres very well. I, for example , am able to churn out good wildlife shots but cannot compose an urban shot or candid of a human to sustain more than a millisecond of someone else's interest. Some people here excel at car photos, sports photos, evening low light portraits, shots whose interest depends solely upon film colour shifts ect, But I find you 2 are best at being able to use composition to create excellent shots across many different photographic genres. You are not the only ones but the better ones in my opinion. Keep up the good work. Cheers.

Theme Rules have been updated.

Theme Rules

Don't flood any particular theme with all your photos, try and limit yourself in each theme so that it's not dominated by any one poster. This allows others to get an opportunity to include their photos.

Don't create a new theme without searching first.

This is not the place to critique photos - if you want to critique photos or have your photos critiqued please post it in the Critique Corner

Do not post pornography. Anything that contains nudity or is sexual in nature add NSFW tags.

How to Post an Image:

To share a flickr image click the share button above the image on the flickr page, select "Grab the HTML/BBCode," choose a medium size and select BBCode from the radio button then copy and paste the resulting code into your post. That code should look something like this:

Code:
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/christopherbrian/7249723348/][img]http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7240/7249723348_b4f71dc8a9.jpg[/img][/url]
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/christopherbrian/7249723348/]Red Winged Blackbird at Presqu'ile Provincial Park[/url] by [url=http://www.flickr.com/people/christopherbrian/]Christopher Brian's Photography[/url], on Flickr

To post images that are a static link/url, a link/url that looks like this: http://home.cogeco.ca/~ionsvw/images/3monkeys.jpg surround the url with BBCode image tags so it looks like this:

Code:
[img]http://home.cogeco.ca/~ionsvw/images/3monkeys.jpg[/img]

That will produce this

Image

except with your picture.

Thanks

If anyone knows of other ways that images get posted (500px method or whatever else) post it here and I'll add it to the first post.

Can we define "flood" a bit more? I know we should have an intuitive understanding, but... some of the themes have very few active posters. By that virtue, even if those active posters post 1-2 images per week to a theme over time it will still look like they are flooding the theme. Case in point, you could probably argue that I flood the urbex theme, yet I generally post maybe 2-3 images there per week at most. Yet, essentially nobody else contributes to that thread (other than Bart and Alex, essentially). However, I don't think that's really the spirit of the guideline.

Can someone clarify?

I currently have no problem with people posting too much. Not by a long shot. It did say three per week which is too low, especially for the amount of traffic we have. When we have more participants we will adapt, until then proceed with vigor. Keep posting the good stuff qualdoth! :)
