Killdeer in old work parking lot between bushes

I would really like to get a good shot of a Blue Jay, a Kestrel and a Redtail ... but so hard to find (except for the last one and they're impossible to approach even at a distance).

I used to shoot panning shots of fast bird in high shutter speed (faster than 1/1000s) resulting in clear background with hardly any sense of motion.

Here is my attempt at 1/250s with my a 300mmF4

Not an up-close shot but still birds nonetheless!

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/oirlee/4409108206/" title="Untitled by Oirlee, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4012/4409108206_39a680b7a0.jpg" width="500" height="332" alt=""></a>

Taken with my QL17 GIII at a pretty slow shutter speed (by accident, but I think it actually helped lol)

I hate to do pp work with my netbook while travelling. And I hate to use short lens to shoot bird. I am now in HK typing on a netbook

Hong Kong which is a concrete jungle. So I did not take long lens except the 200mm.

I need to do some pp work later though for the last one I know

The bird is around 1/4 of a Great Blue Heron. Technically it is my first heron shot of the year

I was in the bird section of the ROM a few days ago where they have stuffed samples of different bird species. Holy crap are the albatrosses large!!!

Not that I have any interesting photos of them. I'm jus sayin'.

Here's a flamingo:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/phil_marion/3303015853/" title="flamingo in Chile by Phil Marion, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3418/3303015853_c84a74154f_o.jpg" width="701" height="1100" alt="flamingo in Chile"></a>

and a rooster being hunted by what looks like a fox* or a coyote*
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/phil_marion/2703828426/" title="I feel like chicken tonight by Phil Marion, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3235/2703828426_7f7a802255_o.jpg" width="1100" height="734" alt="I feel like chicken tonight"></a>

*OK, no need to call me out. It's my little Java - 5 pounds of lean and mean Yorkshire terrier.

Their size helps them deal with the heavy Patagonian winds. I see from your site that you were in Calafate, Argentina. Do they venture inland as far as the Perito Glacier?

A handsome fellow indeed. As a Yorkshireman I might add I see more of these little guys OUTSIDE of my native Yorkshire.

I think this is a Black Crowned Night Heron. Was sitting on a dock near the foot of Lower Simcoe right at the wave deck.

I think the white wisp is a feather but I don't know my birds. I found pictures of other black crowned night herons standing on one leg too so it must be something birds in this family does.

pigeon snoozing at the City Palace - Jaipur, India
One of his friends pooped on me earlier. Maybe it was him and he just pretended to be asleep.
