Very nice pictures.

Can someone tell me where I can get a glimpse of birds or owls in the winter time?

How prevalent are they at Leslie Street Spit? Do you need to be a good spotter? Are there times when they are easier to spot/locate? Do they prefer certain locations over others?

It all depends on which type of owl you wish to photograph but they are more active at dawn and dusk . I have not heard of much going on at the spit . I don't know if it's because the birders are ticked off at the photographers and aren't posting or what .

I've shot this last year on the spit. It is the only predator I have seen in about three (short, 1.5 hrs) outings.

Thanks.. most Loggerhead shrikes out west aren't banded.

We probably ended up about 10,000 shots of snow-geese and sandhill cranes, a lot of very good flight shots.

some amazing shots above....I LOVE the blue jay shot SuzieSue. Kin Lau I love how you found a nice non-distracting background to use with the small DOF, especially on the Curved-billed Thrasher. And the cardinal is a stunner.

Downy woodpecker at the hawk watch on Halls rd. The irony is that he was watching 2 hawks 100 yards away .It took me 5 min. to find them and they flew away of course before I could take a picture .

Wow, very nice owl shots. What lens did you use?

I've been to the Spit many times and never can find out where to go. Where were these shot, past the bridge, deep in the "woods"?

I was contemplating the 300 f4 but decided on the 100-400 due to its versatility of zooming.

Did you know those spots are frequented by owls (especially the wooded area) or was it by luck?
