Post your shots of urban landscape fragments - stressing the fragments. I don't mean street scenes; I don't mean people shots. Not shots of a building but an interesting fragment of the building - a window, it's sign, it's brickwork, it's porch, it's cracking paint. It can be a wall, a doorway, a sidewalk, an interesting object in the urban landscape (i.e. hydrant, sewer grate, wooden skid, fire escape. Light bulb, snow on a barb wire fence, ect.). It can be boring inanimate objects but arrayed in an interesting pattern. It can be a decaying wall, beautiful old neon sign, a lone piece of trash on a cobble stone street.
One of the things I like about photography is the way one can take something common and mundane, yet somehow reveal its beauty or interestingness through a photo. Post shots of architectural details or objects that most people walk by without noticing

WOW - everyone's contributed some real crackers here!!

Monique, which old bar is that from? I've seen it but can't place it. I've walked by it a number of times not thinking to snap a neat shot like yours.

I remember the old Derby at King & Parliament once had a "Ladies Entrance" sign over one of their door. Which I'd photographed it.

JonathanP, where are those amazing stairs (very bottom right)?

Love the broken windows, stos.

Potatoeye, where/what is Vienna's Secession?

What I like about these types of shots is other people's photos of objects we've walked by a 100 times let's us realize there probably are shots out there we haven't taken the time to 'see'.

For example, David (lxdesign) - I've been to the same places you went to and had slightly different takes.
I've heard some people say they've photographed all there is of interest in Toronto. Threads like this show me I can return to places I've photographed and still get a better/different shot.

It's the side door to the Cameron House.

Secession was an Austrian Art Nouveau movement, most famously represented by Gustav Klimt, it's an art movement. Vienna you probably know :D The whole city is an architectural gem, and my hometown Riga in Latvia has a rather large collection of Art Nouveau architecture, can't compare to Vienna though! Having lived in such a beautiful place has really biased me in my perception of Toronto "architecture" really hard for me to appreciate this city like locals do

Really enjoying this thread. Only wish I had more fragments to contribute.

Coal chute?

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ofermod/3727890907/" title="Coal Chute? by ofermod, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2534/3727890907_20188ebd1c.jpg" width="500" height="334" alt="Coal Chute?"></a>

And going through High Park (for the cherry blossoms) I had a strange nostalgia for the big maple leaf near Grenadier Pond where I used to run around as a kid. Didn't have any interest in a wide shot; I just took this and was satisfied:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/ofermod/3502625184/" title="Maple Leaf detail by ofermod, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3583/3502625184_2a6c1e3e55.jpg" width="334" height="500" alt="Maple Leaf detail"></a>

That was my first guess...but then I figured they've painted the side mural dozens of times over the years and thought surely they'd have removed something like that.
Hmm, I walked in that entrance dozens of times in the '80's, but none since ol' Handsome Ned died.

Then you'll have to look harder!! Perhaps the beauty will reveal itself in the details.
Like this Spadina Ave detail

or the textures:
I like to pretend that this family had a rather nasty marriage separation

But hey, It isn't all about architecture. there's lots of interesting vignettes of Torontonian urban fragments that don't require an appreciation of it's architecture.

Interesting images! It's funny, I've barely been around Toronto at all, but I have photos of some of the same things you guys do.
