Details:

What: Presqu'ile Park Warblers and Whimbrels Weekend
When: Sat May 18 2013
Time: 6:00 AM
Where: Lighthouse parking lot inside Presqu'ile park
Bring: Camera, tripod, long lens, close up or macro, park fees

This is the weekend that the "Friends of Presqui'le" do their bird banding program.
They will have guide walks around the area and will point out and identify various birds.
Also in the surrounding woods there may be trilliums, trout lillies and other wild flowers.
They usually have a BBQ at the light house later on.
The program runs from 6:00 till 4:00PM.
There are also some beautiful walking trails here.

See this site for info about the park.

http://friendsofpresquile.on.ca/index.php

The park is approx 145km from Toronto. About 1h45min to 2h.

I'm a maybe. It depends if I'm still in the city or up North for work, and also depends if the Fuji 55-200 is out and in my possession at that time :)

Standard provincial park rules - leashed at all times no longer than 6 feet. Not allowed in swimming areas or on beaches. And of course he drops it you pick it up. There is no dedicated pet exercise area or beach area at Presqu'ile.

You are thinking of ions dog, Kimi. Although in her defence it wasn't her fault. People should carry their gear properly and not swing it around....

The weather is looking good for the weekend. The initial meetup is at the lighthouse inside the park. First tours start at 6:30 am for those interested. I will also be back at the lighthouse at 10am for those who want to meetup later. Will be having lunch at the lighthouse as they have a BBQ there at noon.
Don't forget appropriate clothing and foot wear and also sunscreen and bug repellant. And your camera of course :)
Looking forward to the weekend.

Tim

I'm leaning towards leaving the dog at home and making it there for the 10am meet up.
What time do you guys usually wrap up?
Also, will I miss a whole lot by not making the sunrise?

If I bring the dog, he takes up the entire back seat, so no extra passengers :(
But I'm leaning towards not bringing him, because I don't want to have to babysit him for the day (I wanna take pictures, not wrestle a drooling beast).
BUT if I don't bring the dog, I have a finite amount of time in between dog walks. So I would have a maximum amount of time at the park of about 6-7 hours (since its probably a 5 hour round trip from my place). So I can give you a ride out, but this means no sunrises or sunsets for me :(
You might be able to hitch a ride back with someone else though.

So, is it still worth checking the place out if I miss the sunrise/sunset photo ops?

Another nice weekend outside.
It was great to bask in the sun and get some colour...
...of course, that colour is currently tomato red, but I'm sure it'll be fine in a day or two
Thanks for setting it up Tim!

Thanks to everyone who came out. Hope everyone enjoyed the day. The weather was nice and the birds were, well, birds. They still need more training on how to stay still and pose :)
As Potato Eye shows, lots to shoot there besides birds :)
Here are a couple from me. Still editing others.

Hey Dmitrijs, how did the photos using the 150-500 turn out?
Just curious as to what you thought about the lens...
