sounds good.... that should leave enough room for gear. Reimar -- if you want to meet me at the Ajax GO station - that is probably where I will meet Janet and Anne. And then we can just swing around the corner to get Paul (Bynx)

Now what time do we need to be there for again? 10am.... and according to Google maps, we're at roughly a 1:45 minute drive from Ajax... which is probably generous given that they calculate that for doing highway speed. So if we all meet around 8:00am, that should leave us time to run into Timmies quickly and be on our way.

Timmies? Why?
And according to Google maps, it's 52 km and 40-50 minutes from my place to Ajax. So I'll leave just after 7:00am (after having my lovely homemade breakfast and Starbucks roasted coffee :-) See you at 8am.

That is the time I was planning on. The earliest GO train (with connections from Mississauga) gets into Ajax GO station at 7:54am. That allows me to either drive or take the GO train to Ajax, depending on the weather down here. I arranged my ride with David, and did those calculations before posting the event and meeting time in Marmora.

Should be a great outing! I've never been to a dog sled race. I'm in, see you all up there.

I need to reread this thread... I read "dog sled races" and automatically assumed Janet's event was in Cannington... for which my previous post would make sense.

Marmora... that is slightly less convenient for me to drive to directly, and by slightly less, I mean entirely not.

Who has car space?

I still have space in my van Chris if you want to catch a ride.

So My van has

1) Maureen
2) Yesh
3) Jeniffer
4) Chris / Hotwire

5) Pam - tentatively
6) Ben/ofermod -tentatively

According to google maps it is about 2 1/2 hours from Scarborough. We would need to leave around 7:30am.

Chris are you going to park at my place? You can park in my parking spot.

That would be about right Maureen -- as you are 30 minutes from Ajax.... but on a Saturday morning - that might be more like 20 or 25 minutes. As google maps tends to be a bit generous with their time estimates.

Given that I am not familiar with the Ajax GO station, is there a specific entrance or part of the parking lot to meet?

When you exit the GO building I would suggest you walk immediately to your left. You will easily see Dave.

Ajax Go station is tiny...... there is a spot right in front for car pickup..... I am not sure with the construction - but it actually used to be to the right as you exit the station.

David there is a new carpark building there now. I suggest you park in front of what was East Side Marios just to the left (east) of the exit door to the GO Building. It will be just past the Cafe.

The snow situation doesnt look good. What happens if there is no snow? Dont they cancel the event then? Is there a backup thing we can do?

That is what happened 3 of the last 4 years in Cannington. I am hoping that Marmora has a better chance of snow, given that it is further into the snow belt. I will be constantly checking the website the week leading up to the event though. I am open to suggestions for a backup plan though (just in case).

The weather is a concern, but I am not giving up yet. It is still 2 weeks away, and there is snow in the Marmora forecast for the next 2 weeks.

I did see that the Haliburton races, which were scheduled for this coming weekend, have been rescheduled to Feb. 23/24. If (and only if) the Marmora races do get cancelled, is the any interest in trying for Kearney (Feb. 9) or Haliburton (Feb. 23) instead?

We are supposed to be getting lots of snow in the next couple of weeks... so I wouldn't write it off just yet. There is supposed to be a big snowfall coming this weekend. Let's see how it plays out.....

I'm hoping the snow comes through. However, Chris and I will both be in the area visiting family, snow or no snow. So if people want to shoot something else if the event is cancelled I'm game.

Ashley, can you get snow reports from the area closer to the time?

I am certainly hoping the weather cooperates.

Looks like Marmora has about the same amount of snow as TO - about 1-5 cm. Cannington and Barrie are in the 5-15 cm zone and only north of Orillia are we in the 15-30 cm zone:

We will have to watch the forecast carefully, and wait for the organizers to decide if there is enough snow. There was some snow in the Marmora forecast when I checked, but also warm weather early in the week. The Cannington races were cancelled for this coming weekend due to the lack of snow.

Current long range speculation isn't too promising but has some bright spots. Depends how much snow they have as a base and how much they lose in the coming midweek warm up & rain shower. Maybe snow the day of the event which would be nice. I'd like some big fluffy flakes, make it happen Janet. ;)
