Details
What: Crawford Lake Conservation Area Mid Week Explore & Shoot
Where: Crawford Lake Conservation Area near Campbellville (Guelph Line south of the village)
When: Thursday July 19, 2012 - Meet at 6:30 PM Parking Lot inside main gates
Bring: Camera gear, comfortable shoes, water
Cost: Bring money for admission fee (fee is per person) $7.50
Additional Info: Crawford Lake Conservation Area is located at Conservation Road (formerly Steeles Avenue) and Guelph Line, 5 km. south of Highway 401 and 15 km. north of the Q.E.W. GPS Coordinates: 43.47 -79.951

I had posted in the feelers about doing mid week shoots at some of the conservation areas clustered around Milton. This is the first to test the interest. Crawford Lake offers a nice little lake, views off the escarpment and a reconstructed Iroquoian village. We will meet in the parking lot just inside the gates at 6:30 PM and the park is open until 9:00 PM so that will give us a couple of hours for wondering and photography. I would plan on scenic, historical and maybe macro. But you never know.

By the way, there is no maybe, either you are or you are not coming.

Boo for me :(.

I'll probably be spending that evening preparing for the weekend at Mosport. It does look like an interesting place. If you happen to move it a day earlier, or a week later, I'm in.

Thursday's I'm downtown (subway). By the time I get back to my car I'll be knee deep in rush hour traffic - I don't know if I'll be able to make it by 6:30. If traffic still light due to the summer I should be ok. I'll have to confirm the day of unfortunately.

Don't use the 401. It's a parking lot west bound in the evening.

From downtown would you recommend QEW to Guelph Line then north to the lake?

I drive home on the 401 most everyday going east so I see the parking lot on the other side. I don't know about the QEW, but I have been on it around 6:00 PM and it is usually just as bad as the 401 for traffic from the 427 to beyond Cawthra (where I get off if I am going to my friend's). Like I said I thought I would try this event out because I work in Milton so the conservation areas in this part of the escarpment are only minutes for me. I don't know if I will try the others as events, but we will see.

Simon is coming to get me downtown just after 4pm so we should be able avoid the real heavy traffic.

Very cool. Its cloudy here now and rain is in the forecast, but who knows it may improve.

I realized driving to work this morning that for the next one I can offer rides for up to three people and pick them up at the Milton GO train station. I can then drop people back off in Toronto on my way home afterwards. Might be an option if I do this again.

True. Actually I can see Rattlesnake Point from my office window.

One of the walking trails at Crawford Lake goes over to Rattlesnake Point. Halton Conversation estimate 4 hours to round trip this trail.

Depending on the timing and the success of this event, my plan was to set up events to visit each of the conservation areas located in the cluster around Milton. This includes Rattlesnake Point, Mount Nemo, Hilton Falls and Mountsberg. Depending on interest I may set some up on weekends.

I hope the rain holds off - I just brought my x series cameras with me (just got my x10 back yesterday) and they are not weather proof!!

Well while the light was not there, at least the rain pretty much held off the whole time. I got some potentially decent shots. Thanks for organizing Daryl!

I'm gratified that some sort of meetup actually happened. Looking forward to the next event.

The only thing I wanted to get a shot of was the inside of this place. It was locked shut.

In spite of that the four of us managed to do.

Now we all shot this part of the walkway to see how each of us looked at it.

Hey Jordan, Simon and Paul, thanks for coming out the event. I know it was a bit of a challenge. Too bad the day went overcast on us. At least the rain was harmless and didn't interfere.
