Hi,

Anyone interested in doing 50's styled couple shoot with vintage car? We can hire some models and rent the car and do a shoot. I'm not sure if it will even work with a large group. But we could split the cost of the rental.

Thanks,
Dileep

This has been done before with decent interest. The best way to start these events is to bring more to the table than ideas. I don't mean that the idea is bad, it's quite good in fact. Organize it and they will come.

Sounds good. I'm in contact with some car owners and models. Just wanted to see if anyone was interest, before I proceed.

I'd be interested - but I'm organizing a photo walk on Toronto island that day. Can we do this in the morning? That way I can do both. :)

Too bad its a '50-'60 shoot, a '70's theme and my bus might have been a candidate for the shoot. Maybe there is interest for another event?

Yeah, maybe another event...

Update: I've contacted couple of car owners most of them are 1-2 hours away from Toronto the ones that have nicer cars.. I'm not sure if anyone would interested. I'll try to find something closer to toronto.

There are a ton of these car groups that meet up during the summer month's at places like strip malls and burger joints. Many of these people have high end vintage cars and are eager to have them photographed. I just did a shoot in Whitby ( HWY#2 east of Lakeridge) at "Shake, rabble and roll" is the name of the burger joint. Cool 50s style diner. All that is required are the models?
If you have interest in this, I can ask next week if any of the owners would do a shoot on site with models?
Does anyone have a model/s in mind ?

Forgot to mention that this location gets about 50-80 cars ranging from the late 20s to the 70s.
Also it's nest to a small creek on the west side.

The Shake, rabble, roll looks nice, I'd love to see your shots.

Do you mean we can shoot at Shake, rabble and roll with vintage car? That might work. I personally would like to make it not look like a car show with models, maybe if we could get one of the cars to creek area and shoot that would work. I can look for the models.

I just looked at the pictures.. it looks awesome.. I'm down for that. We just need to talk to owners about shooting there. We can also chip-in to help persuade them.

I will follow up next weekend on how many owners might be interested. Not too sure if we need to grease any palms, but I'm thinking if we can provide the owners with a few prints that may do the trick?
We may also be able to get some owners to another location? but that may require a fee for gas ....
I'll keep everyone updated.
I would think the earliest we could do this is 2 weeks from now?
I'll speak with the owner of SR&R.

Anyone offering the owners good size prints as an incentive?

Sounds good. How about providing 5-10 shots emailed to the owners? I think we've done that before for other events.

We can do earlier too (eg. 20-21st), I think it will depend on the availability of SR&R and cars.

Good news for those who wish to take part. Turns out I know someone in this club, with a car. Even better, I just spoke to the owner and he is interested.
I would need a full weeks heads up to arrange the "theme/cars". We can get up to a half dozen cars from any era. 30s,40s,50s or a mix of each.
I would suggest a start time of 7pm or so. At this time we get the sun from the north/west at a good angle.
If we stay and do an after "dark shot" we would need to ask those drivers to stay a bit later. This should not be a problem?

If there is interest in this, can we limit it to 5 plus myself. (6 total)
First 5 are in. Then we just need to get a date. We can do it Monday or Saturday night's. ( better turn out on Sat)

P.S. The food here is pretty good.....

Petezee, great job. Is location still the diner? I think Saturday would be good. If we set the date, i can find the models. How many do we need?

Still the diner.
Generally cars show up around 5-7pm. The cars park on the large grass area beside and behind the diner.
Some along the creek, others on the tree line.
With any luck, we may be able to ask certain cars to pull up and park in front of the diner for "that look"?
We should determine that in advance as these are prime parking spots for the diners regular paying customers.
I think we will get a lot of flexibility from the owner if we advise him the week before?

As for the models? what's the look? bubble gum chewing beehive rockers? Bring as many as you like.
This Sat may not work? Next week I'm 4x4 on the Canadian shield so it may have to be July 28th? or after.
Let's get some participants to commit and go from there.

If its at the burger joint in Whitby Im in. My son worked there a few years ago under previous owner. Any evening is fine with me. Supplying a large print is no problem.

Just a bit off topic Dileep, if you belong to Photo East Group did you read the site for trip to Niagara on the Lake to see reenactment of naval battle this Saturday?

I think 10oclock. It runs most of the day with a naval battle then finishing up on land. I dont know if they captured the fort or not.

Sign me up. Shouldn't you put this up as an event with a sign up section? Also, you do realize that the weekend of August 4th is a long weekend?

Sign me up as well. This shoot will look amazing as HDR. If you need a model contact me. There is a great one that we have been using from Model Mayhem. She lives in the area and hopefully would be available.
