Details

What: High Falls Waterfalls (Pre-Torrance Barrens)
Where: Bracebridge (Hwy 11 and 117) at the MTO Picnic Area at High Falls
When: Saturday August 11, 2012 - Meet at 10:00 AM
Bring: Camera gear, ND filters, tripod, the usual
Cost: Lunch money
Additional Info: Approximately a two hour drive from 400/401.

Beat the Saturday traffic on the 400 by going up early and spending a couple of hours with the water falls at High Falls. There are a couple of waterfalls at this one location including a nice little falls on the creek in the woods.

The plan is to meet at the picnic area at High Falls where 117 meets HWY 11 just north of Bracebridge. After shooting we will head to Gravenhurst for lunch and for those who wish to pick-up dinner for later at the Barren. After lunch we will mosey on to the Torrance Barrens.

You don't have to be going to the Torrance Barrens event to attend this event.

One thing we need to keep in mind that there is a drought so water levels may not be great at the falls. The little rain this past week may have helped, but in general water levels are down across the area. The main falls is on the river and should be OK, but the creek may be more affected. Just don't want anyone to be surprised.

Looks like Saturday will be wet. This event is still on. The rain this week will mean more water going over the falls. And rain/overcast on Saturday will make it easier to get those silky photos everyone loves.

So bring rain jackets for you and your gear.

Thank you to everyone who came out. Everyone made it who signed up which is outstanding.

I am glad we gambled on the weather because I think we won big time. The rain held off for the whole time we were shooting only arriving in the last five minutes. There was really nice flow over the waterfalls. And the mix of overcast with occasional sun made for some nice options. I think I may look at a another event at High Falls in the fall if there is interest. Probably October.

Daryl .. that would be Pott's Falls..... in the woods - they are actually a separate waterfalls.

Yup, know that, my reference to High Falls was to the location as opposed to the name of the falls.
