What: Cherry Blossom season
Where: High Park - along east side of Genadier Pond. Usual meetup is at the restaurant.
When: April 14th. 8am to avoid the crowds.
Bring: Anything. There are lots of options for shooting blossoms.

The weekend morning meetup to avoid the crowds to see the Cherry Blossoms at High park. The peak is expected earlier in the week, but the weekend is the better option for a large group.

The 8am is a rough arrival time some will be arriving sooner from a possible sunrise event.

Keep watching this blog for details: http://www.highparknaturecentre.com/

Edited 1: a tentative date -- very much subject to change.
Edit 2: Upped the time to 8am
Edit 3: Date moved up to the 8th
Edit 4: Put tentative date in subject
Edit 5: Back to the 14th

I figured to not waste time with the feeler or speculation thread and cut to the chase.

Assuming the date works for me, I will plan to do sunrise at Humber Bay before the cherry blossoms.

I would like to make the "official" event ofermod manages to put together assuming it works out time wise. If anyone is concerned about making this even remember that there are usually several events during blossom week as we ramp up to the optimal shooting time that ofermod is organizing around so don't fret, there'll be a few chances to shoot the blossoms!

A bunch of us also go ad-hoc during a weekday evening as soon as they bloom -- should still be able to catch an hour or so at that time. There can be up to two weeks of opportunity, weather permitting.

The path with all the trees are in a bit of a valley, so sunset isn't ideal... Never tried sunrise with the blossoms (The Humber Bay event would be the better bet for that).

Yes, please stay on topic. And remember, people get busy so participation ebbs and flows. Anymore talk of that in this thread will be deleted. :)

We need someone to organize an event back to Maclean's auto graveyard! Go for it.

It sounds like they're blooming in Washington now.

The watcher blogs are saying that they will ramp up in April, so there are still a few weeks left to prepare.

@roninbmo thanks in advance for the update. There has already been an update at the blog listed in the event header if you are interested.

I put a tentative date in so that you all can get a rough idea of at least the meetup time.

My thoughts exactly, which is the reason we have done a nearby sunrise, and then gone directly to High Park. Having said that, if it is April 14, I am not sure if I will be able to make it.

A couple of things about High Park I found out while visiting High Park today. One is they had two controlled burns this week in the park. One on the north end near the Bloor Street entrance and the other along the hill just west of the restaurant. May be interesting for shooting in the area as the plants come back. Fire is a regeneration tool and that is why they did the burns. Also, be aware that the roadways in the park will be closed to traffic on Saturday April 7th for a road race.

Unfortunately and coincidentally I am committed to a shoot with some friends on April 14th in High Park photographing one of the other rites of spring in the park, so I won't be able to join this event. If the blooms are out I am sure my friends and I will take advantage while we are in the park.

There were buds today on the tress in the lower valley on the east side near the zoo parking, but no blooms yet. I find those trees seem to bloom a little later most years than the main area up near the restaurant.

Which other rite of spring?

The Nature Centre has updated their predictions to the Easter weekend. I've moved the tentative date up to the 8th to avoid the waterfall event the day before. I hope everyone is cool with the Sunday.

Saturday would have been a bad choice as the Harry Rosen run is on that day and the race uses the hill where the Cherry trees are located, and all the roads in the park will be closed. So Sunday will be better. Good choice.

I'll be working at the Grenadier Cafe on that day. Not quite sure if I'll get the morning shift, but if I do, I'll see you guys around when you meet up :)

The weekend is creeping ever closer. The forecast is also calling for rain on Sunday as well. The blogs have also been rather quiet about the forecast.

I plan to make a trip and have a look tomorrow evening.

A search on flickr for all images tagged "high park" taken after April 1st shows no sign of cherry blossoms.
