Hi Bynx - trust me there are some amazing waterfalls in Ontario - I'm sure once you get to see more of them you'll realize tews and Webster may not be the best. To be honest I have a bad history with Webster - ion can vouch for that ;)

Hey Chris
I'm currently staying in Hamilton...and am on holidays until after Easter - if you want me to go and check any of the potential destinations for flow/conditions, I can do so over the next couple weeks. Let me know. Cheers.

Cool Mike, I'll be bouncing between Toronto and Burlington a bit too as I usually do. Perhaps I'll join you for a "planning shoot."

It's not that he drinks and falls down...it's that he falls down causing his camera to drink.

Who's drinking now? Your camera took a drink up at Hilton Falls, not Webster's. I understand your memory fudging the details on that, I'd try and block it out too. :)

Date narrowed to Saturday, April 28th.

Post Traumatic Shock Syndrome has set in and affected his memory of the event.

Thanks for firming up the date. Saturday is perrrrfect.

That depends... How much of an ND filter do we need to make the sand look like it flows like silk?

It looks like I'm going to have to bow out of this one. I was looking forward to it, but I shall be helping my 92-year old grandmother move into a new apartment.

Chris, do you think you'll do another one of these either later in the summer or in the fall?

I am no longer able to come ... the forest opens Friday, and I'll be spending the majority of my weekends shooting up north now.

Yup, at least one, possibly two to three. Good luck with the move.

I've done a bit of reconnoitring and it's pretty dry out there. The foliage is starting to come in but it's still pretty brown and colourless. For example this is actually a colour photo taken Thursday!

;)

At least there's some decent flow. The Weather Network is reporting that low levels are going to be common in southern ON so unless there is some decent rain between now and next weekend we'll be staying away from cascades or notoriously weak falls.

It seems 8:48am is the earliest arrival time I can get to Aldershot. Is there anyone who will be available to meet me there for this event? If there is, the rest of the day is on me -- gas, any parking costs and lunch.

A bump for this coming Saturday. If this magic winter storm that's supposed to arrive today actually does come it will hopefully give us a bit more flow which will be nice. The current weather prediction for Saturday is sunny and around 10°C but starting out pretty cool so dress appropriately.

Bynx, I'll have a truck that day and thus my two seats will be full but a ride should not be a problem. Thank you for reminding me, there will likely be parking costs at a couple of the falls so please bring some cash or a payment method that will work. I'll try and sort out what those costs/methods will be before the event and post here.

The first post has been updated with time and location. I'm posting directions here as well:

We are meeting at Aldershot GO Station. This is easy to get to.

Directions from Toronto: Take the QEW west o Burlington, at the Niagara/Hamilton split west of the Brant exit stay to the right. You will shortly see a big Mercedes Benz dealership on the right. Waterdown Road exit will be coming shortly so get in the right lane. Take a left on Waterdown Rd which is south. Once you go over the highway and you will see the entrance to Aldershot GO station. We're going to park near the ramp to get back on the highway. Look for a dark red Ford Ranger and that will be me. Unless I end up in the Red Bug, in which case look for that.

Directions from Fifty Point: Get on the QEW back to Toronto. After you have passed the Burlington Skyway (that's the big tall bridge) and see Mapleview Mall on the right there is the split to go to either Hamilton or Toronto. You want to stay on the right side of the highway because this interchange was designed oddly. To go left/west you have to stay on the right for the Hamilton 403 ramp. Unless I end up in the Red VW Bug, in which case look for that.

Google Map of Aldershot GO Station

Current forecast for Saturday is 9°C and variable clouds. Hopefully the clouds help us get some slower shutter speeds. Dress in warm layers and wear footwear appropriate for possibly wet muddy hiking.

Has anyone confirmed a ride for Bynx yet?

I am hoping that final car-pooling arrangements can be made at the GO station/lot. If I do not secure a fuel-saving ride for myself at that time, then I will guarantee a spot for Bynx with me... just so that he doesn't come all the way for nothing.

There was a request in the old waterfall events for participants at each location to start with their wide shots first and then move in closer for the closeup shots. This will help avoid shooters getting into each other frames and help things move along faster.

Not to worry, I will say this LOUDLY several times throughout the day and I WILL yell at people who do not follow this. We've got all day to shoot these things, be patient with each other and everybody will get a chance. When you attend an event like this remember to look behind you, be considerate of your fellow photographers! OR, once again, I WILL YELL AT YOU! :)

This is a good idea. We'll spend a few minutes at Aldershot Station sorting this out. A big reason for that is a couple of the falls we are going to have small parking lots. It looks like we're gonna have around 15 people, the first two spots are going to be cramped for parking.

I did a dry run today (during rush-hour ) and the flow is low but they look alright.
