When: Saturday January 28th 2012
What: Drive to Haliburton Forest & The Wolf Centre
How: We will get in cars and drive
Why: Because we love wolves
What Time: The aim is to meet at the Haliburton Forest Wildlife Reserve restaurant for noon.

The aim will be to arrive in the forest and eat at the cookhouse for noon. We will then proceed over to the Wolf Centre to do some shooting. Some ground rules for shooting in the wolf centre -- we will be observing the wolves through 2 way glass. There is NO outdoor viewing area. This is not a zoo. Quite a few of us will be shooting with long lenses on tripods - so try to be respectful to others, and keep the window area clear. There are benches to sit on. There is also a secondary hallway observation area where you will be able to see the wolves from another angle. We will probably spend about 1.5 - 2 hours at the wolf centre. At this point as we head back to the city, there are lots of things to stop along the way and shoot. Such as Elliot Falls just north of Norland, and much much more. There are quite a few nice vista's even from county road 7 on the way into the forest.

This event is now CONFIRMED

As a suggestion - we could meet up near my place in Ajax for 8am on Saturday, and then proceed north - I have a route that would take us through picturesque Menonite area and farms.

Oh ya.... forgot to mention that there is a charge for the wolf centre, I think its around $10 per adult. I forget these things, because I get in free with my lease.

Who's driving which way? Anyone want to share a ride, assuming they are willing to do the 400->11->118 route?

I am leaving my house, and driving up Lake Ridge to Durham County road 13 - then from there I snake my way across eventually hitting hwy 35 at the Glenarm Road.

I would likely be picking up passengers at Kennedy Subway, or Guildwood Go and heading to David's depending upon the numbers of people following David or combining in one vehicle.

So Maureen, are you driving to the forest or coming with me? I suggest we go in my van -- its going to be Icy up there because of the freeze/thaw/freeze they have been having. and you remember what your van did on an icy hill :)

Are you sure you will be at the reserve by noon? I know you spend a lot of time up at the reserve and are likely very familiar with the time required to drive up from Ajax, but you seem to be planning a road trip on the way up with what may turn into multiple stops. I am debating if I will drive out to Ajax to travel with the herd or go direct. Being in the west end it is counter intuitive to go an hour east to go three plus hours north so taking the direct route seems more sensible. Actually Goggle map says it is five hours of driving to go from my place to Ajax and then to the reserve .

If people in the west end elect to go directly up the 400/11/118 corridor as suggested by Hotwire, will they find themselves waiting for an unknown time for the rest of the group to arrive?

DG

Yes I can pick people up in Toronto and come to your place. We can then combine in your van. So I guess 3 people including myself instead of 6, since there will be you, Paul and I believe Simon. So far there is Myself, Jeniffer and Pam.

Not planning to make any huge stops. Maybe a couple of quick drive-by shots in menonite country. Most Likely will do more stops on the way home. I didn't expect everyone to meet and follow, which is why the aim is to meet in the forest for noon. Hope that clarifies the plan!

I'm good with that, hopefully Jeniffer and Pam are good with that then I can arrange a pick-up location and time.

It helps. Although we all know what the German dude basically said, "a plan only lasts until it meets the enemy."

See you at the reserve.

The unregister button is normally at the bottom of the registration box in the left hand corner. It seems to be missing from this event. By the way sorry you have to bail.
