I'm still good for the 14th as was previously suggested. Given that we're doing night time, I'm not too concerned about lack of snow. Actually, I'd probably do both; something now, and maybe again once we have snow on the ground.

That was a stone cold event, cold being the operative word. Great time. Thanks for setting it up. Your first event was a great success.

I lost some good shots due to tripod shake. Sure was windy up there. Click on the pics to see a larger view.

Now that we've done this, I can see all kinds of things I'd like to do differently. Some of the fish eye shots are great...I was using a near fisheye (a wide angle 35mm equivalent 18-36 mm focal length), but didn't get the curvature I saw in Jordanfaust's & Simon's shots. They were great. Most of the posted shots were really good. Bynx had some great ones too.

I also didn't get the red I wanted for the tail lights, like in another shot...can't remember who's. Eddie S I think. I don't know if I was shooting too tightly with F 20 or 22...maybe should have been more like F11 to get that.

Its amazing how different each person's take is on the same scene. For WB my setting was incandescent. Now that gave the street lights a warmer look.

If you set your WB to incandescent, doesn't the camera make things colder to compensate for the warmer tones of an incandescent bulb?

Daylit subjects become colder with a bluish tone. But at night the street lights, which arent tungsten come out really nice and warm looking. I imagine that others such as Barry and Daniel used a different setting thus getting a much less warm look. I tried to check this out but WB isnt part of the EXIF data. I wonder why. It certainly makes a big difference what setting the camera is on. I usually leave it on Auto, but it was on tungsten. I did change it once midway through the shoot, but then I thought I turned it back to its original setting. Maybe not. But the camera is on Tungsten now and thats what I shot with.

Are you shooting raw?
WB is built into the raw Data and can be changed later.
Or are you saying their's don't display the WB information? They may have disabled it on export if that is the case.

Im new to shooting RAW. I didnt change any WB in post processing. As for EXIF data there isnt any mention of WB other than WB AS SHOT.

What Alex is trying to say is when shooting in RAW, it doesn't matter what your white balance is set to in camera because it can be adjusted in post processing. All the information is stored in the file to change to anything you like afterwards.

So if you dont change it, then what is the WB of the Raw file after you convert to dng?

What's recorded in the RAW is the colour temperature used at the time you shot, which is based on the WB setting set on your camera. However, the raw data itself just records everything as is, regardless of that setting. During processing, the colour temperature used at the time of shooting is used to interpret the RAW data by your RAW processor.

As others have stated, you can change it to whatever you like by changing the colour temperature directly, or by using the WB settings (which hone in on particular colour temperature settings).

I would expect the colour temperature marker to be persisted through conversion to DNG.

To Jordanfaust & Simon, can you tell me the focal length of the lenses you were using. They gotta be less than 15mm...I don't know what a fisheye length is actually.
Thanks
