What: With the holiday decorations already up it's time for another night shoot. First a short session on how to take long exposure shots, followed by a longer hands on of actually doing,

Where: City Hall meeting at the SE corner of Nathan Phillips Square
http://g.co/maps/hgxva

Equipment Tripod, Camera with adjustable ISO, aperture and exposure (or bulb mode). If you have a remote bring it along, if not a pair of black gloves or a sheet of black fabric will do.

Additional:

Dress appropriately for night time temperatures. Read your camera manual so that you understand how to adjust ISO, aperture and shutter for your particular camera (it should be in the section in using your camera in manual mode.

People that are no longer considered beginners are welcome to come along for a refresher and/or for the shooting part.

I might come during the information and such if that's cool.
I'll definitely be up for shooting though!

And then I looked at my calendar...
I apologize, I can't actually make it out at all.

Why dont we set the location at distillery district. They just lit up all the christmas light friday, and having been there last year its totally worthwhile visiting. Ill be totally down for street shoot if we have the event there.

Because the distillery district has this group permit thing which they may or may not enforce, Downtown has plenty of lights plus some interesting street traffic

City Hall meeting at the SE corner of Nathan Phillips Square
http://g.co/maps/hgxva

I have arranged a note from city hall to security just in case.

I'm not sure what the organizer(s) has (have) in mind, but I was wondering if its likely I will need my really long lens. I have 2 long ones, a compact 300mm (35mm equivalent) & a 600mm. The bigger one is extra bulk & weight which I don't mind bringing, but if its not necessary, I'd prefer to travel lighter.
Thanks

It's up to the individual but generally for long exposures I like to use a normal to wide angle lens.

You have to link them using the BB code -- click on the photo, then click on "Share" above your photo, then click Grab the HTML/BBCode, and make sure BB code is selected, and it will show text similar to this:

Sarah's Old Camera by lxdesign, on Flickr

except that I screwed it up intentionally so the image wouldn't show here, and just reply with the BB code in your message, and viola! Your photo will appear on TPMG
