I did say I was in as of Oct 18. That would put me at the top of the present list.

I'll leave this to David to sort out, but a claim on a registration spot has never been how these events work.
I don't mind if you take the spot, but based on the level of interest, I would anticipate someone on the wait list would get upset.

Oh come on Alexanderhosking, dont lie. You know you mind, otherwise you wouldnt be so concerned. I would like to go to this function since interior photography is what I like best. And to be fair if you read back through the posts I did have my name in as of the 18th. But I will accept whatever decisions are made regarding the matter.

Well, I can't really blame anyone here for what happened, and I suspected there would be at least one person not happy. But what traditionally would happen here is that the person stepping down would send a message to the first person on the waiting list letting them know that they were cancelling, so that they could take the spot. Being that we have some new members here, and the normal protocol was not followed, I am not going to make anyone change their registration. As the person who cancelled did announce he wasn't able to come, and Bynx did jump at the chance on a first see, first register basis. And if you do look at the time that Jim unregistered.... To the time that Bynx did register... It was a whole hour between. So it was really anyone's game. We didn't really state the normal protocol in the initial posting. Sorry guys.

I guess the best thing would be to have an established wait list procedure in the "please read" section and a reminder on an event post. Sometimes you don't see the open spot because you are working, your internet's dead or whatever. Please don't anyone else jump the queque.

I probably won't make it this weekend, so I've popped myself lower on the wait list (just to save a spot in case of a followup event).

Elaine tried to contact me, but the next spot should go to Yesh.

You're right, I do care, which is why I say something.
Your point false on deaf ears in my case, because I didn't respond to the thread because I read it in full and understood that registration would be open at a later date.

If registration was about who read the post first, or responded to a post that did not yet have registration, your merit might stand. But I don't agree with how you've claimed the spot, based on others experiences with the wait list process.

At the same time, I don't care to fight about it, which is why I wanted to make you aware of the normal protocol, and that someone who is much more interested in fighting about it and at the top of the wait list might speak up about it.

All I ask is that you keep that in mind for the next event you are on the wait list for, or that you really want to participate in. We are a good community here, and this "fair" you speak of is a two way street.

Anyways, to all who are attending, enjoy it. I am thoroughly envious and am excited to see the photos that come out of it!

I don't think an explanation in the event post is required to understand that on a limited access event what a waiting list in the sign up area means. And past practice has always been that if someone leaves the list of participants the slot goes to the person on the top of the waiting list. And on down the list as slots open.

It has also been past practice that if someone did fill an open spot by accident they would step back and defer to the waiting list when it was pointed out.

If the waiting list is not going to be honoured why have waiting lists?

Just my thoughts as someone who has posted limited access events with waiting lists, has been on waiting lists, and has seen open spots on lists for events I really wanted to attend and wanted to "pounce on" but knew it was not the TPMG way.

I think that because this is quite popular... I will most likely organize another one for the new year.

David has stated that he will organize another event in the new year if you did not get into the first event.

The waiting list people could be contacted first and see if they are interested or at least given an advance notice of the next event.

I just put myself on the waiting list in case Maureen is right and the waiting list people get contacted first for the next shoot at Spadina House.

Please come a bit early folks, so that we can start promptly at 10:00am. I am planning to be there at least 10 minutes early.

Great shoot David. Thanks for setting it up. Very interesting place with many opportunities.

I love the idea of doing something similar in the spring or summer where we might shoot inside in the morning and then move to the gardens in the afternoon. Make a day of it.

Here are some pics of Spadina House. Unfortunately they were all shot with a Fuji S5700. My D7000 didnt make it back from Nikon until Monday morning at 8:30.
