Details
On the Manitoulin trip some people expressed an interest in doing an outing to Cape Breton. (not to worry David. This has nothing to do with the guided tours we were discussing.)But since this won't happen until next year, 2011, I thought I'd get it out there, food for thought, to give everyone who may be interested.

What: Cape Breton Outing
When:Sat. August 20th to Sat. August 27th 2011.
Time: Definately will need a week.
Where:Cape Breton. Sydney Forks, My home and local accomodations will be home base.
Bring: If you want to camp in the back yard to save money, bring a tent. Cameras, sweaters, rain gear, because you never know, etc.

Thus far, I have each day planed. My list of things to do consist of costal driving to WWII bunkers, The Fortress of Louisbourg, The Cape Breton Miners Museum, Lighthouses and water falls galor! And oh yes, The Cabot Trail. Plus lots more! Financial details to come.

That's great Sarah!

If the Garden Cottages don't have several beds in each cottage we could even possibly look at a motel/hotel close by that might work as well, for those wo don't want to camp.

I'm in. I will need a schedule by November.
We book our first round on this month and I will need more of the second and third picks should we decide to drive this. Yay!

Very interesting... :)
Is there any rough plan or thoughts as to how many days it would probably take?

I didn't realize it was 2011 until Sarah specified "until next year 2011" lol :)

Definitely interested.

Do fall colours start in NS earlier than Ontario?

Sarah are there any caves on the coast that'll be hit on a sunrise or sunset? This will be the icing on the cake if you have it there

This is what I'm after. It's a looooooong shot but well I could hope for a lucky timing. Marc goes at a specific time of the year at the right conditions where the sun shines the cavern, low tide etc.

Hmmmmm.... This has piqued my interest for sure. I'm a little light on vacation days but I think I can make it work. If I could pick a week to do it it would be leaving On the 18/19 of September. I'm heading to Ottawa for the weekend but could meet up in Montreal or something.

Med, this event is for tentative September of next year, though I'm glad you're enthusiastic.

Wish I could join in, but can't go in September. If this were July or August, I'd definitely consider it!

Planning a back packing trip to Gros Morne after this. The proximity to NF is too tempting to resist.

Sarah has moved the date of the event back one month into AUGUST see post at top.

We are looking at cottages in one location for most of the stay -- 7 cottage in all most have 2 beds so it will be shared accommodations

One night will also be one the Cabot Trail in a cottage, but they all don't have electricity, some have solar lighting. Main cottage has electricity so all can charge their batteries and anything they need charged.

More details to follow and looking at moving it into the official outings so that we can seriously think about people picking room mates they would be ok sharing with for a week.

We should start booking for early January if you want to guarnatee a room for everyone.

I'll add the sign up list at the top of this post for more accuracy on definite numbers.

Sarah, you should update your post to say Saturday the 20th to saturday the 27th, so as to help people make sure they pay attention to the number of work vacation days they will need.

Plan looks great Sarah, I'm in...

Will probably go out there on my own; I'd like to take a few days to ride out via NY/VE/NH/ME/NB. I'll most likely be tenting it, so hopefully someone will be gracious enough to let me solar charge my batteries in their cottage ;)

I know the feeling - I don't think I can do August either - I'm already planning a trip the Newfoundland for 2-3 weeks in July. August is just too soon after that trip! :-(

Can I be number 8? ;)

I'm in for sure but won't need a cottage; I'll be tenting it somewhere.

Sure why not Matt -- yeah it comes up as an emoticon in the list.

Tenting is good. Sarah has said tents can be set up in her backyard, which is right across the road from the cottages.
