Wow, that looks pretty wicked. I'll be moving back to Vancouver the weekend after this so I'll try my best to come out amidst all the packing frenzy!

It is a fun event not to be missed. Chris did you ever get that "blood" off your jacket and bag?

Yeah, it wore off the bag, though my TPMG luggage tag is still stained with it. It's still visible on the jacket if you look closely.

bsimonian, sorry to hear you're leaving us and I'm more than a little jealous!

Thanks; I would be jealous too... inter-company transfer that I requested since Vancouver is home for my wife and I.

I'm off to Italy tomorrow for 3 weeks if you want to add to your jealousy :D

Wow! I didn't even know about this event. I will definitely be there.

I hope I'll have a good set of lens by then. I currently have a Tamron 18-200mm (non-VC). It's the only lens I have for now... :(
:P

Is anyone participating in the walk? I was thinking of participating as a zombie photographer.

How do you guys usually do this? Cause this walk takes forever at Zombie pace. I would rather just hang out in one location, like Kensington, and wait for the walk to make its way through there, get some shots and leave.

Last year we did the initial assembly and Zombie talk which was fun. Shot them leaving the park and then, thanks to Simon's directions, we made a quick shortcut to head them off on their path towards the end. This worked really well as it allowed for a variety of shooting styles - close ups in the park at first and then shots of them walking toward you on the street with a telephoto. This is what I plan on doing this year. Zombie route and weather may have an influence.

So anybody have some suggestions on a lens or 2 for the zombie walk? I've never really done much street photography before and have the following gear:
- Canon EOS-40D
- Canon 17-85mm f/3.5-5.6
- Canon 50mm f/1.8

I'm considering renting the 24-70 f/2.8L for the walk... love to hear everyone's thoughts!!

Thanks!

I shot one a few years ago (wow 2006 TPMG event), it was drizzling and a lot of fun but I pretty much used my D200, 18-70 kit lens and a flash and was happy with my photo's. Don't think you need much, especially if it's sunny out. I wouldn't bother renting anything for it, just go and have fun.

I may be able to make it out again, only took 5 years :-)

Well...it looks like my gf and I will not be participating in the actual walk. We'll just be there taking pics. Do we have a meet-up plan? :D

bsimonian, I shot the whole walk last year with a 70-200 2.8 with the same crop magnification you have. The only issue was during the initial assembly in the park where sometimes they would be too close for the minimum focus distance; an issue that would effect any lens aside from a macro. It's a mild pain but it's also where that lens works best, right at the edge of MFD. I might try and use my 24-70 for a bit of it but I presume I'm gonna go back to the 70-200. It's a range I like and am comfortable with. Generally what works well for portraiture works well for zombie portraiture. I've been thinking of renting a fast prime for it, the 135L maybe. Dunno yet.

The zombie organizers have now tentatively set a time of 3PM at Trinity Bellwoods for their meet. I'm gonna stick with a 2PM meetup time for us because I want to spend some time shooting Zombies as they arrive and some reconnaissance on good shoot locations as they walk out of the park. Plus, when they're not yet in the walk trying to keep up with friends they're more likely to be willing to stop and pose for a couple minutes.

maybe we should break up into smaller groups?

I say we examine good vantage points for better sniping view. We don't want fellow TPMG'ers to get in the crossfire when we start shooting headshots and bodyshots.

chopper, that's a great suggestion that I've been thinking about. It's tough to plan though because who knows how many will actually show up. I do have some ideas in mind about how to deal with a larger group.

Also, if we're gonna have a larger group we need to think about post-apocalyptic libations. Who will take all of us? If any one is familiar with places along the route, or nearby, that will take a group of varying size please make some suggestions as I don't. Not yet anyway. If people could post whether they plan to join in on the eating of brains post shooting that would be helpful as well.

Got my 70-200 f/4L IS rental lens ordered and should be arriving early next week... getting pretty excited to see all the zombie. Anybody packing a shotgun or chainsaw?

Hmm... Well...sort of out of topic but since we are talking about zombies. There was a question my friend asked me. Something he read online on what you would be using to defend yourself in case there was a zombie apocalpyse. You know...when suddenly your coughing workmate(s) suddenly convulses, starts spewing out coagulated blood and then turns on everyone.

Tell me, what is currently in your right hand (or left if you're left handed)? Whatever that is, that will be your weapon. Right now, since I'm typing, it'll be my keyboard...either that or my trackball. LOL!!
