Fashion Editorial:

What: Vintage Fashion Editorial
When: Friday, Jul 29, 2011
Time: 6PM
Where: 20 Leslie Street (likely) - Studio
Bring: Camera, fashion mags, patience to get the "right" shots

Sadly, I see rhommel had to cancel his Beauty shoot later this month, so I thought I'd spare some time and chip in with another workshop-shoot. Beauty shooting is still way too detailed for me to be able to give a workshop on that properly, but i can offer one of my shoot ideas in my "ongoing" list. So I'm posting this to see if anyone is interested.

The idea is to shoot a fashion-editorial look that is both very striking, beautiful, and has a cool vibe. I am thinking a photoshoot like the old 1960s spreads you might find in French Vogue or some other European fashion magazine. Something cool, vintage, and powerful.

I will find the right model and explain why that model was chosen, go through trying to put together 2 outfits with her. Explain my thinking on color and matching outfits for the right "feel".

We will meet up at the studio and work at or near it as our home base. 2 outfits, or looks should give each shooter enough to work a defacto magazine spread type set of 4-5 images. We will talk about lighting ideas that emphasize the theme or feel of the shots you want and i can make suggestions on posing, but if you bring in some cool fashion mags, you can work off other poses form those as well.

This is NOT a shoot out (only one person shooting at a time!!) and the goal is for each person to take your time and get actual GREAT shots, rather than a bunch of ok ones.

4 Photographers (maybe 5)

Estimated costs:
The right model: $80ish
MUA: $50-80ish
wardrobe extras: $40ish
Studio Costs: donated by me

Total Costs (estimated): $35-$45/person
(note that there will only be 4-5 photographers so there wont be any rush and you can take your time)

**Please Note: Because we will be focusing on more of the detail and getting depth to the shots, this event is limited to people who have already shot with models and lighting before. Sorry, but this wont be the place to be completely new to working with models. There seems to be other events available for that**
:D

Don't know what I'm doing way over on the 3rd column but I guess I'm waiting on the drop outs of the waiting list. This sounds like a very cool theme!

What lighting equipment can we access here? I'm thinking of set ups if it's possible or not with what we can work with.

Depending on final location for the shots (inside or outside), up to 4 strobes, umbrellas, 2 octaboxes, strip boxes, 2 beauty dishes (silver and white), boom arm, various grids, etc. so i think we should be ok.

I was going to post some sample pics to show possible lighting ideas we will use.

OK, let's see if Pam signs up from the waiting list tomorrow.

I'm narrowing the model selection now and will try to find some pic samples of the lighting set ups i am suggesting we go with. The participants should think about some specific poses they want to try! :)

As first on the third list you need to move over to the bottom of the second list now. You never know what might happen!

Done. I could of snagged the open spot when Alice dropped out but that wouldn't have been civilized .. even though I REALLY want to attend this. Perhaps we'll all make it to the next session, if there is one .. :)

OK, model has been confirmed. Karina. :)

She's got the right height, face shape, strong eyes, the right skin tone, and can pull off a more urban-"chic" hair-up look. Hopefully she can pass as a 60s "British" girl too, ha

I'm sending out PMs for everyone's emails address to coordinate.

Here are two Pics from her Portfolio (not mine)

(showing face shape and up-do)

Hi to the four participants -

Model is confirmed, Make up artist is confirmed. Wardrobe is being finalized today as we are putting together a couple chic outfits to shoot and work with.

However, i see now that forecast is 60% chance of thundershowers tomorrow. My plan was to shoot on the rooftop of the studio for some cool urban-context fashion shots. I was planning on mixing sun and strobes to try various effects. Rain will mess with that plan. Studio is available still though inside but we lose the original plan.

Please check your emails.

if the vote is to reschedule, the new date may sometimes produce a drop out. I see you're next on the waiting list.

Ok, we're all set to go!

Final cost is $40/person.

Covers model, make-up/hair, and some of the costs of the wardrobe accessories I bought for use tonight. Just bring the money tonight if you can.

And here's an iconic image from the past to help everyone get in the right mood for tonight's shoot!!! :) (not mine obviuosly)
