WHoah :D

Love the enthusiasm!

Let me build a small "agenda" for the workshop and also find a date.

Weekday evenings good for everyone? I'm good most weekdays, except Thursdays.

I'm sorry for my ignorance.. :(
But is Strobe = Flash?
If it's not the same, what's actually the difference? I want to learn and I have no idea about this stuffs yet...

Yes. Strobe is flash. There was/is a distinction between studio flashes (Bees and such) and hot shoe flashes. Most of the time when you see the term strobist it means hot shoe flash stuffs. My assumption is that is what J is planning.

Great to see an intro to strobist! I've always want to learn more. I had taking a course where a couple of strobes were setup in a studio for model shoot. I will bring flash & off camera cable.

To sum up, its "Off camera lighting" and understanding some control of light to produce an image. Using external flashes (speedlites and the like) is one of the most portable ways of doing this. Here is a small quote that may put some of it into perspective.

"...Lighting is not about working in a studio -- it is about being able to use your flashes anywhere. The world is your studio."

We'll have studio type lighting there since it won't require batteries. The same principles will apply.

This is what I hope to cover for the group that night. I hope this will help everyone with what to expect... and get those minds thinking

Intro to Strobist:

1. Hardware - Overview of Equipment
- lights, stands, umbrellas, reflectors, grids, holders, gels, etc.

2. Understanding Basics of Lighting
- Position of Light, Angle, Style and Camera settings

3. Controlling Light
- modifiers, feel, types, multiple sources

4. Practical Applications (one example)
- one strobe
- one strobe + modifier
- one strobe + modifier + reflector

I added a date :D

but if we want to have more people, we would need to have a nominal fee to cover security guard charges... $5/person

What I can also do is charge everyone $10 and I can provide drinks, snacks and most of the props. It would cover the security guard fees also.

Input?

added!

Ok everyone, its time to "confirm" your registration on the list

Additionally, if you hit confirm, please know you're commiting to $10 for this event. It will pay for $10 to cover drinks, snacks, props, and any other costs for this event.

I'm gong to find some colourful objects that we can test out on, and as the night progresses, probably test it out on each other. I find that's the best way for people to understand being on either side
