Details:

WHEN: Thurs Mar 10 - 7pm
WHERE: Imperial Pub (Probably upstairs)
WHO: OLYMPUS, Panasonic and m4/3 users
WHY: Why not?
:)

This is an unofficial Oly meetup. There's still some talk of an 'Official' meetup happening in March or April, however, some of us are inpatient (aka ME!) and want to meet sooner rather than later!

Bring your gear (or not) and any fun toys you may want to share during Show And Tell or just come, be social, talk shop, spread rumours about new gear coming out etc.

All 4/3 users are welcome!

See you then!

I heard from Paula. She really wants to come but needs to wait closer to the day to see if she can make it :)

OT but what the hay.
This photog really puts the splashproof E-5 to the test.

I'd like to see the pictures from that shoot.

I wished I videotaped the Oly rep at the Henry's show dunking an E-3 into an aquarium!

I finally picked up a 4/3 9-18mm lens and will have it with me, for the meet.

I actually looked at getting one of these during Boxing day, but compared to the interesting images I've captured with my 150 degree semi-fisheye converter, it wasn't worth the price of the 9-18...same with the 8mm fisheye I looked at too at the time, I found the 8mm boring.

Here's the type of pictures I get now with my $35 semi-fisheye converter attached to the 14-42 at 14mm:

A 100 degree field of view, which shows an entire room when standing in a corner, was exactly what I was looking for. While there may be subjectively more 'interesting' lenses out there, this one fits the utility that I need. I also got it at a substantial discount, though perhaps not as cheaply as I could have.

Was it the used one from B&H, because I noticed it was no longer listed after you made your announcement.

Nope, it was a brand new one from Henry's.

Cool! Looking forward to seeing/trying that Rob! The guy at Vistek tried to sell me one when I bought my E5. I tried to explain to him that women and families generally do not like photos taken with such a wide angle lens. LOL

I really don't like seeing wide angle portraits. The Toronto Sun has started doing that with the Sunshine Girl. I'm certainly no portrait shooter, but sometimes I think that they just handed a camera, with a random lens on it, to a chimp.

I expect to get a lot of use out of it, at the track, taking some low angle shots of bikes as they launch.

It's true. Bikes don't care too much how big their nose is in a photo ;)

Hey Rob, I got my 9-18 mm a couple of weeks ago. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Not sure I'll get a chance to pop in on the 10th, but I'll try.

Well we also seem to have a good number of people who can make the 26th, as stated in the 'old' thread. Maybe that could be the 'official' meet?

I will be there!

I had a work event scheduled to run to 6:00 but that has been canceled so I can definitely make it for 7:00.

I won't be able to make it. Now I have a work related function on Thursday (would much prefer to meet up with you guys).

Yes, good to see everyone. Thanks for organizing Sara and Rob.

btw... how many of our last ad-hoc socials have been on rainy days or nights? Seems like a lot. I guess it's better to have a rainy night for a social than a rainy outdoor shoot.

Always great to see you guys, too!!

@Bruce - I think you're right, it often rains on these nights! Perhaps we should just check the weather network the next time we're planning an event and just plan it on the next rainy day ;)

Hopefully we can organize a rooftop meet like we chatted about Bruce! Maybe in a month or two we can suggest a date in the summer (perhaps a weekday since so many folks go away for weekends in the summer??). Let me know when you're ready to start thinking/planning and I'll help out!

It's probably raining because someone's unhappy they can't make it, and the weather is just matching their mood!

Smaller meet, fewer toys, but no less good than previous meets. Good to see you folks again :)

I think the E5 dominated most of the chat anyway :)
