Details:

What: Muskoka Wildlife Centre Redux - Captive Wildlife Shoot
When: Saturday March 26, 2011
Time: 12:45 PM for a 1:00 PM start
Where: Parking lot at the Centre - HWY 11 East Side north of Orillia
Bring: Warm everything, extra batteries, lenses/cameras/tripods/etc.

Due to expected rain the Event is rescheduled to March 26th at 1:00 PM.

Since round one seemed to be well received, and apparent demand was greater than supply, we offer you the Muskoka Wildlife Centre Redux.

This event is limited to 10 participants on a first come first booked basis (initially it will be limited to 7 as I may have two friends who are joining us - if this changes the spaces will be opened up to all).

This is first come first served and there are no limitations. If someone went on the first trip they are entitled to sign up for this event as well. Please don't hassle or flame anyone who went before because they were fast or lucky. Please play nice.

The Muskoka Wildlife Centre provides the opportunity to have small group sessions with their animals at a fee. The Muskoka Wildlife Centre is basically a shelter for animals that cannot return to the wild due to injuries or other reasons. The money charged for the photo sessions goes back into the operation to care for the animals. The Centre is located on Hwy 11 approximately 2 hours north of Toronto. More info at; http://www.muskokawildlifecentre.com/mwc/

Here is the arrangement. We will have a maximum of 10 people/spots available. At the Centre we will form two groups of five (5). A three hour session has been booked at a fee of $450 for each group of 5 which will be about $90 per person based on five in each group.

Each group is provided with a keeper/handler who take the photographers into the enclosures and places the animals to get as natural a background as possible. The Centre has a number of animals that would be very attractive such as lynx, bobcat, wolves, wolverine and others.

If the weather goes bad (rain for example) we can cancel and reschedule up to 24 hour before the event at no cost. I will check the weather and we can make any decision the Thursday night before the date.

One critical element is the cost. If anyone signed up and did not show up the rest of the group would have to adsorb the cost. If anyone signs up they must be really committed to going. If you sign up and don't show we will bring back the cougar and feed you to it  . OK, just kidding, but we will be unhappy with you.

If you are committed please put your name in the Yeah column. If you want to go but the list is full put your name in the standby column. If not, the no thanks column.

If you are on the Yeah list but need to cancel please PM the first person on the standby list so they can have first refusal on your space.

And if you can offer a ride let people know by posting below, and if you need a ride post your need and watch for those who can offer.

Daryl

After the event we will likely go into Gravenhurst for food and thawing. Last time we went to Boston Pizza on the lake shore and it was very nice. So that will be an option again. But that isn't carved in stone.

Thanks for organizing Daryl. I saw Tim and David's images from the first event. Awesome!

I could drive if necessary, but since my car is a '94 Honda Civic I am hoping to catch a ride from Toronto with someone.

I won't be joining in this time, as the plan is to go out to Varna that weekend.

I can offer rides. I am coming from Scarborough.

Closest subway is Kennedy. Then across 401 and can stop at York Mills Subway. Up the 400 to the Wildlife Center.

I would plan on eating after wards before heading home.

1)Maureen
2)Bruce (greatlaker)
3)Alvin (alvin85)
4)John (noidea)
5)Pam
6)Chris (ions)

VAN IS NOW FULL

I can't believe I forgot to sign up last night. Too many things on my mind.

Well, with Daryl signed on and two maybe's (that's only 9 people), I may still have a chance.

Just as well, it's nice when popular limited spot events like this can rotate attendance so different people get a chance to go right?

I'd agree.... so maybe Chris (hotwire) should give up his spot then.... to give another person a chance, oh like yourself....

Oh burn! You got me. Yup. My post is completely out of self-interest. You caught me. Ad hominem. Regardless of my position in line the sentiment remains the same. In a meetup group parsimonious in events those few occurring events should be mixed up a bit. Also, regardless of warning of first come first served, it is in the interest of fairness to step aside and let others who have not been go.

Arguments can be made both ways for fairness. I decided to just leave it open for anyone who signs up and not set any rules about who could go and who couldn't.

I am trying to open up the two spots. If all goes well I will know this weekend.

DG

It seems that Ions is on in any case. Unless 7 plus 2 really does equal 10. So far I'm happy with my chances in spite of my stupidity :-)

Yeah. Saw that. And I stated why I don't think that's fair: spread the wealth and all that. I'm not disagreeing to not play nice or be a dick, I just see it differently. Regardless if I were interested in going or not.

Or drive in. Or already be in the city. I can make it to any subway station.
