Details:

What: Toronto Islands
When: Sun. Feb. 20 2011
Time: 12:15pm
Where: Ferry Docks
Bring: Camera, tripod, etc.

After seeing photos of the ice on the pier of the island, I want to try to shoot that myself, before it melts away. I was thinking we could walk through Ward's Island, and then take the boardwalk to the pier (stay near the shore). Afterwards, we could do some sunset shots.

I'm sure it's icey now, I can see it from my office. But after three days of 10' C melting, it won't last 'till Sunday.

I was told that there is enough ice there that it should last through a few warm days, especially since it is still getting cold at night. When I looked last night, I saw sub-zero overnight lows, although now they are showing overnight lows of +1C . I'm thinking that it is worth a try, since it is probably the last chance for ice shots close to the city this winter, and if we don't find the ice there are lots of other things to shoot on the Islands: Ward's Island, Centreville, lighthouse, etc. and then the Toronto skyline at night.

If there is still ice till Sunday, I would love to come. My friends live at Cityplace facing lake, can ask them to give me a last minute update. =)

Almost forgot, since they only have one ferry route running during the winter, we will walk to center island to get the better angle, right? 30 mins walk.....

My plan is to shoot around Ward's Island, then walk across the south side of the island to the pier then work our way towards Olympic Island to get there for sunset and Toronto skyline at night. After that it will probably be a 30-40 minute walk back to Ward's Island for the return ferry.

Given the current forecast for 10cm of snow overnight, I may not want to wait for sunset and the night skyline. I still want to go for the afternoon though.

I love going to the island for sunset and the night skyline but I can't make it tomorrow. :( Sorry Janet. I'm sure you and those whose are going will have a great time. Looking forward to see the nice shots.

Ended up just being two of us on the island. Although Janet would not have enjoyed the drive, I was hoping that the 'storm' would have been a factor.

Still, a good day for getting out. Thanks to Janet for organising:

Yes, sorry Janet, I got called into work. Seeing Ofermod's photo I wish I'd paid attention to the call display that I pay for! Next time I'm not answering the phone.
