Details:

Details are subject to change based on discussions/suggestions below.

What: Random Road Trip IV: Fall Colours @ Balsam Lake
When: Sunday Oct 3rd
Time: 9:30am
Where: Tim Hortons, 1100 Davis Dr, NE Corner of Davis & Lesile, adjacent to the Metro Supermarket, Newmarket.
Bring: Camera, Tripod, the usual.

So I will be out of the country on Thanksgiving weekend, and seeing as our area will probably peak this upcoming weekend, I'm contemplating shooting the colours around here somewhere.

Scheduling the event will allow me to hang out with my dad on his birthday on Saturday, and maybe take in Nuit Blanche for some of Sat night.

I can easily accommodate a pickup at the Newmarket Bus Terminal from Either GO Bus or VIVA YRT, for those that want to ride with me.

I'm interested. Saturday is definitely a no; I'll find out later in the week if I can make it Sunday.

What do you think of going to Balsam Lake? If I read the maps & description in http://www.parkreports.com/fall/ correctly, this is the only park that has 90-100% colour change and within 2 hours drive from Toronto.

Catherine: that sounds like a good idea. Never been there.

Alvin: My Dad's birthday is on Saturday, or I think I need to be home early (earlier than I would bother on a shooting day) that evening, but I'll look into going out for dinner with my folks for Sunday instead.

Sunday is fine with me as well, although I won't be able to meet up early in the morning since the TTC doesn't run that early on Sundays in Scarborough :( Unless you want to pick me up there :D I can be at STC at 9am :D

The drive by Google Maps passes through Newmarket or Aurora (I like). I can meet you folks up here if you guys can carpool.

I can drive from Newmarket onward, if you want to leave a car, or there's YRT's VIVA Blue bus, departing Finch Station, first bus at 8:24am.

I am definitely going if it's on Sunday, and I'm bringing my dog who can do a vigorous 2 hour hike or a longer slow walk.

I can pick up from downtown or somewhere along Hwy 404.

Balsam Lake has a 1 hour loop trail with a lookout tower.

Maybe we can find other things to photograph nearby or along the way?

RRT4?! Darn it, I have to install lights that day. I will see if I can weasel my way out. These are always fun. Especially now that the Greyhound is coming out!

I'm definitely not planning on driving south to the city to do pickups.

However, I'm willing do do a little legwork on getting to me.

Option 1: Go Bus (Sunday): http://www.gotransit.com/publicroot/en/ ... age=1&new=
Departs Union Bus Terminal 0810h, arrives at Aurora Rd @ Hwy 404 Carpool lot for 0840h, or Newmarket Bus Terminal 0900h.

Option 2: VIVA (York Region Rapid Transit): 8:24a @ Finch Station Bus Terminal, arrive 9:22a @ Newmarket Go Bus Terminal.

This sounds like a good road trip.
I've also have not been in that area and will gladly join you guys.

Chris, how many people can you fit in the car?
I will have to ask for carpool and can take the VIVA bus, outlined in your Option 2.

Thank you!

I have a Pontiac Vibe that can normally seat 4 adults including driver.

Add the variable of camera gear, and it will be between 3 and 4.

Cool, thank you.
Can I get a spot, please? ;)

If all of us who expressed interest can go, then we need at least two cars.
Is anyone else driving?
