Details:

What: Nuit Blanche
When: October 2nd-3rd (Sat-Sun, 6:57PM October 2nd to Sunrise on the 3rd)
Time: 6:57PM October 2nd to Sunrise on the 3rd.
Where: Union Station - inside the front doors(facing Front St.) which head down to the main area of Union. By that dingy bar and magazine stand.
Bring: Photography stuff (tripod?). Snacks. Booze money. Whatever. Weather appropriate attire - gloves, parkas, etc.

Nuit Blanche is back with more postmodern boredom. Truthfully I found the majority of installations last year... underwhelming. But, the night itself is quite fun and there is lots to shoot.

I've always been disappointed by this show. The cool stuff takes too long to get into and the other unjuried exhibits are just awful.

Actually I have found the obscure and out of the way exhibitions to be some of the highlights of the evening. Two years before last was much better then last year, the big exhibitions were gathering places. Now days too much drinking on the street plus they changed the lighting in most of the parks to monochromatic sodium orange which are not very good for photography.

The first year I went I saw some really amazing art too, mostly on King and Queen West/Liberty Village. Big outdoor installations. But drunks can ruin the experience in that area as well.

Great idea! It would be wise for those attending to look at the site and see if there's anything they have to see. If you can, as Ashley has done, post what you want to see so if we're a single group we can see what we agree and don't agree on and then come to a democratic (I RULE!) decision about where we're going. Depending on the attendance/preference we may split up as different groups may(will) have preferences. Most important is we all stay safe with our equipment and person, in that order, and blah blah blah.

Also of note, and I guess this is my responsibility, is to sort out what places are tripod friendly and that which are not. I will poke around and see what I can find out. If someone has some info on tripod access for the exhibitions post it!

I've been before. Maintaining groups is easy if they want to be at the same place.

Yes the best is when all the drunks spill on to the streets around 2am. Love the cat fights, hope there's more this year!

They set up a station where they hand out programs right in front of Union on Front directly across from the front entrance to the Royal York.

Actually, you allude to a very good point. It's all about expectations. If I am expecting to shoot the craziness and violence, I will be happy! If I am there for the art, I will be sadly disappointed!

Most green P's are $6 overnight on the weekend, I believe...there's one under city hall/nathan phillips square (http://parking.greenp.com/parking-info/carpark-info/36_110-queen-street-west-nathan-phillips-square-garage.html) and one on front (http://parking.greenp.com/parking-info/carpark-info/52_40-york-street.html

Thanks for the parking suggestions guys! Silly of me not to check the nuit blanche site to start with!

So... raining. And it looks like it will do so for most of the night. How many are now out?
