Details:

What: TOMMY THOMPSON PARK BUTTERFLY FESTIVAL
When: Saturday August 21, 2010
Time: 10AM
Where: The Leslie Spit, aka Tommy Thompson Park
Bring: Photography stuffs (tripod, macro and flash for butterflies and telephoto for birds) for shooting butterflies or whatever else and food/water as there's none available on the spit.

The Monarch's are getting jazzed up to head really really far south and this is, apparently, a good spot to watch them do so.

Weather isn't looking too great at this point but the weather charlatans don't really know so we'll see what happens I guess. We'll meet at the park gates at 10AM. PM me for my mobile number if you're a maybe or you think you may join up with us later.

Is this one of those awesome events where you can see monarchs by the thousands/millions everywhere you go? If so, I'm in :D

For those TTCing it:

- From Donlands Subway Station: Take the 83 Jones S. bus south from Donlands station to Commissioners St. It is a short walk south of the stop to the park.

- From Downtown: Take the 501 Streetcar along Queen St. to Leslie St. Catch the 83 Jones S. Bus to Commissioners St. and walk south to the park entrance.

Yeah, I know. I tried to attend but Google Maps failed me colossally. Still bitter.

I like to do the butterfly conservatory and the bird kingdom on the same day...and avoid the falls...we could do that as an ad-hoc another weekend...
...or, you know, on Sunday...

Hey all,
It's been a while since I've been on here (heck, it's been a while since I really used my camera) but I'm hoping to come out on Saturday. Are we going rain or shine?
Cheers!
Sameer

Guided events are cancelled if it rains. Not a big deal for us since last I checked they were full except for the 2PM. I'm okay to go in the rain as long as it's not too heavy.

This looks tempting. Will depend on the weather as I would be biking there with gear and tripod. Also will depend on the wife's look when I tell her yet again I am going off to take photos on the weekend....pray for me.

If only we could bring pets in to the park I'd be a 'for certain'

To properly do that we'll need an L lens, either yours or one of Mike's will do. :)

I don't have a 67mm UV needed for complete sealing

I must have done SOMETHING right. I've been cleared to go. If it isn't raining hard I'll be there by 10AM - or later when the rain stops. Just make sure you make lots of gorilla or coyote noises so I can find you.
Weather will eventually be fine when it is overcast. I prefer overcast conditions cuz my 30D, she cannot handle the highlights.

People TTC'ing it should check the frequency/times of the schedule as well. On weekends I suspect you could gather dust while waiting for a 83 Jones S. Bus
