I've never been. I'm assuming that once the sun sets the musicians are basically going to be playing basically in the dark?

They are lit up by flood lights, powered by the various stores they play in front of (which power their amps as well).

It's only the outhouse interiors that (stupidly) aren't lit up so you can't see what you're doing.

Ah... multiple events on the same day, eh? Well, hopefully both events will get a good crowd. :)

FYI, don't take the Queen St. streetcar. It'll take forever to get to Woodbine.

Depends on what time you take it...also after 6pm TTC is re-routed. Here's what I wrote last year:

* Take 92 Woodbine South Bus from Woodbine Subway Station
OR
* Take the 501 Queen St Streetcar east from Queen or Osgoode Subway Stations

Note for those intending to use the Queen streetcar: as of 6pm on the night of the event (and every day of Streetfest) the streetcar will be turning off Queen at Kingston Rd. due to Queen street being closed off for the event.

It's just last year there were some complaints raised about not knowing about this in advance, so now you know! It's just over 1/2 a km walk from Kingston Rd. to Woodbine.

So either arrive early and grab a pizza or do some shopping, take the Woodbine bus, or be prepared to walk the extra distance after 6pm.

Err, according this this search, the Beaches Jazz Festival is running this weekend too. What's the difference between the two?

http://www.toronto.com/festival/event/371945

Edit: nm. Found it. There's concerts at the Woobine stages, but not streetfest, which happens next weekend.

The street fest is the one everyone likes to do..... the woodbine park is similar to the kew gardens fest - only in the newer Woodbine park.

Any votes for a after-shooting re-gathering spot? In past years I usually suggest Ed's Real Scoop, only to find that it's either closed or there's a line out the door.

Anyone know a dinner spot that's perhaps far enough east that it wouldn't be jam-packed on Friday at 10 pm-ish?

I'm probably going to go Thursday instead since it will be cooler with the humidex compared to Friday, and Friday has 80% chance of rain.

Dan, this is a toughy.... as the east end of Queen isn't really known for its diversity of restaurants.... and not too mention - finding a place with space might be tricky.... Quigley's is probably the safest place to start - there is also Fitzgerald's - but that place is pretty small, so they might be full, and there is also the Waterhouse -- you might find space there, but then again - probably going to be full with people. Another possible suggestion - is wandering up the road to Kingston Rd & Victoria park to the Winchester Arms?

Its a tricky one finding a restaurant on such a busy night.

There is the Good Food place we went to last year.
Garden Gate restaurant.
It is at Queen and Beach. The food was good and priced right and they were open later than everyone else.

Otherwise known to all local beach residents as "THE GOOF" and sorry I didn't mention it - I dislike western Chinese food.

Is there a contingency plan in case of heavy rain?

That's why I went last night (also the fact the humidex is going to be much higher on Friday). Saw a few TPMG members there. Personally though I go for the LED light-up toys you can pick up for light painting.

Also stopped by the Beaches library and photographed some photographic book titles I want to take out (I didn't want to take them out at that time because I didn't want to lug them around).

Not officially, I guess.

I'll be there for sure (barring some sort of end-of-the-world downpour).

How about this: Let's make the Garden Gate Restaurant the official end-of-event meetup spot. Of course, no one should feel obligated to go there; but for those who want to re-unite with the rest of the group (as we inevitably get split up as the evening proceeds), and who may crave a late-evening snack or drink, let's meet up there around 10 p.m. (I sometimes find I've "seen everything" by shortly after 9 -- so I might actually head to the restaurant a bit early!)

The restaurant (known to locals as "The Goof," as mentioned) is at 2379 Queen St. East, at Beech. That's about 1.5 km east of our starting spot.

Cheers!

I meant to add: If it just happens to be pouring rain at 7 p.m., but you're already in the neighbourhood and want to meet up with the rest of the group, find some place to stay dry for a while, and then head over to the Goof.

PM me if you need my cell.

:)
