Ok. Perhaps I'm nuts. Maybe it'll still be too cold out, but is anyone interested in meeting down at Queen's Quay tomorrow?

I'm not married to the location. I'm willing to change locations if there is something that the majority is jonesing for (I just want to start shooting with my brand spanking new camera)

What: TMG / Harbourfront
When: Tues Apr 19
Time: 6pm
Where: South side of Queen & Spadina

I'm up for it. Or down with it.

I found a neat little bird bath in the Music Garden last year.
I should have sharpened this one after resizing. Maybe later.

only slightly related,

the music garden is turning into a little gem in Toronto. In season it's quite beautiful, maze like, good for wandering. Summer concerts 2X per week often are outstanding, and free.

i hear ya Donald. It my fav downtown green space.

But I usually only go in mid summer during concert season, so I have no idea what to expect tomorrow. But I figure if it lame, there's always boats, water, joggers... we can meander over to the fake beach or to Harbourfront.

looking forward to meeting some of you tomorrow.

The sun will set behind the condos on Queen's Quay. At 6:00 PM it will be somewhere around the Canada Malting silos.

I just took a run to the musical gardens on my lunch hour workout. Things are still fairly bleak. At this point, from a garden perpective, macros may be the way to go. There are lots of daffodils, some tulips, a few pasque flowers, scilla, and hyacinths. It's not too windy, so close-ups should work.

Other than that - as you say - there are the boats, waterfront and such. Should be a good outing for you. Have fun.

As it's right near me, I'll come down :)

Hopefully there is not a lot of traffic on the way from work, otherwise may be late.

So the reason that area to the east of the silos was not fenced off is because there is some sort of art installation back there. It's a very strange place to put art. Its directly behind the Silo's, maybe a 1000sqft patch of grass with some statues of some extremely emaciated people. I'm not sure what It is supposed to represent but it made me think of holocaust survivors. I'm going through the pictures now.

Are you talking about Ireland Park, and the Irish Famine statues?

Great photos!

I don't think you have to compress the photos at all when you send them to Flickr. They have a 20mb limit per file. But the free account only allows 100mb per month I believe so you have to be careful there. I would suggest getting a paid account with Flickr or even another service. Besides unlimited uploads. Its nice peace of mind to know you have full resolution photo's stored offsite in case of losing your own.

thanks.

I just upgraded the account. I'll play around with it later. (I don't know why I resisted flickr all this time). I'm assuming they don't sell off images, that will later be used in a marketing campaign on the other side of the world?

Haha no you don't have to worry about that. You can control whether people can download the high res versions of your photos. If you allow anyone to download these, you may want to consider watermarking them. I haven't been doing it up to this point but I'm starting to consider it.

Also, not sure if you already use it, but theres something called the Flickr Uploadr, its a desktop application that will allow you to upload, tag, name, etc photos in batches.

aren't you a wealth of knowledge.

I currently have NO workflow. (it consists of saving everything on iphoto - terrible) I used to watermark photos, and fell out of the habit. I need to be a little more delligent with those details.

I will look into uploadr this eve. I literally just signed up this morn, paid for the upgrade and ran out the door to get to work.

The unruliness of my "stored" images stresses me out. I need to get a handle on it.

Before I go crazy taking a gajillion images with my purty new camera, I need to take a moment and determine the best way to sort/organize the input.

Slow day at work today, perhaps I will research some alternatives now.

If anyone has fab ideas for a mac user, feel free to contact me.

cheers

Lightroom, folders sorted by date, collections according to taste. Does not make much sense till you try it. Best analogy I can think of is iTunes, collections = playlists.
