What: Fun with Macro
When: Sun Feb 21, 2010
Time: 12PM
Where: Front main entrance of Allan Gardens
Bring: Your cameras with or without macro lens, extension tubes and etc etc (by any chance, could I borrow somebody's extension tube please? I shoot Canon.)

We will have fun at Allan Gardens for about an hour and a half or so and if we are all hungry then we could head out for lunch at Pogue Mahone Irish Pub over at College Park afterwards.

I'd be interested, if anyone could give me a lift? I'm in Mississauga south.

I'll confirm closer to the time. I do have to come into Toronto that evening, so I am going to keep this in mind. If I do come, I'll park at Fort York Armoury and take the streetcar/subway from there.

ok...still 2 more weeks to go...boy~~~it's kinda long

Any idea if there would usually be flowers opening this time of the year? Or will they mostly be bulbs?

Does Allan Gardens have any rediculous rules concerning tripods?

i see quite a few people with tripods every now and then when i go there...so there shouldn't be a problem...i hope...

ok...tomorrow...i'm gonna run over to allan gardens and see what kind of flowers do they have there and i'll be back

oh i don't mind. you see i just got myself a 2x sp af tele-converter so i have to test it out. i hope everything will be twice as big as before

I've never had issues with tripods in there.

so i went to allan gardens today just before they closed and i saw there are lots of flowers, nice, colourful and gorgeous flowers they are probably freshly planted too but somehow, my teleconverter seemed to be strange because i didn't lose any light and i could shoot at f2.8 i don't know if there's something wrong with my camera or what but i could only use manual focus

I'm trying to rent for the weekend. Wish me luck! If no luck I'll try fake macro! I love Allan Gardens.

ok, good luck, Pam. yeah, fake macro's fun too...i used to do it all the time before i got my macro lens

I got asked to work on Sunday, so now I won't be able to make it to this after all.

I'm excited! I've never been to Allen Gardens and would love tips on how to shoot Macro

I wasn't able to arrange a ride, so will have to miss this one. Maybe I'll head over to the nurseries on Southdown Rd near where I live---I'll pretend I'm with you guys!

oh that's too bad but there's always next time since allan gardens and the zoo are my two favourite places...i'll set up another one soon or you can buzz me when you're in toronto and i'll meet you over at allan gardens...

If you're going out on this outing Sunday, pretend you're shooting on your own and not in a group!

The City of Toronto is going after camera clubs (a group of 4 or more photographers) and asking them for their $60 permit and insurance, and fining them if they don't have either.

The Toronto Camera Club had planned to go to Allan Gardens next weekend, but it is cancelling/relocating their event outside the City because of this.

huh?? i don't want to pretend that i am shooting on my own here. it's no fun. so if i pay the 60 bucks then can we all shoot as a fun group?

I will also have TPMG tags for sale ($4.00) for those that want them.

That way the police know to lock us all up together.

I don't think there will be a problem at Allen Gardens. The staff there is alway
so friendly and helpful.

Just remember that photographers with permits have the right of way
i.e. wedding and commercial shoots, so keep out of their way and
don't block the laneways with your tripods or your self. Let people
pass then grab your shot.

I suggest in the unlikely event anything comes up that you politely explain that you are a group of friends with an interest in photography (the truth), that it is not a workshop and no money is or will exchange hands (no profit).

If they get really insistent, leave (but get the person's name and badge/identification number if any) and then everyone should write/complain to the Mayor's office and your local councilperson (if you live in TO).

So don't worry - be happy - and have a great shoot.
