Details:

What: Canadian Automotive Museum
When: Sun. Jan 24, 2010
Time: 2PM
Where: 99 Simcoe Street South, Oshawa
Bring: tripod, flash, $3 entrance fee

We have a daytime event in the Durham region for the day of the social -- the Canadian Automotive Museum in Oshawa. Thanks, lxdesign, for the suggestion.

I've booked us into the museum for the afternoon, and the cost is a mere $3. When I booked I said maybe 20 people, and this was the price I was quoted, so I suppose it's possible that it maybe slightly more if there are fewer of us, but probably not by much.

I was also forewarned that the lighting in the museum is not terrific, but we are free to bring tripods, and even encouraged to bring flashes. From the photos I've seen on Flickr, it looks like an interesting place to spend a couple of hours before the social, even though many of the cars seem to be roped off.

I've set a 2pm meet time to allow us a couple of hours before the social, and it's about a 15-20 minute drive to the Lone Star afterward. :)

According to http://www.toronto.com/arts/listing/272475 the minimum number of people needed for a group discount is 10.

The most official website I could find was this one. http://www.oshawa.ca/tourism/can_mus.asp. There's a link for the models on display. Looks interesting.

Good to know about the group discount number. The woman on the phone didn't say what the minimum was, just the price. I think she was just happy to have a group coming in! ;)

Yeah, that's the website that I saw. Not a lot on it, but it does have a link to photos.

I'm interested in going but I live/work downtown so I don't drive. I'll figure something out.

I have room for 3 in my car, picking up somewhere along the 401. I can do a pickup at Yorkdale, or Tyler, somewhere in Pickering if it's not too far off the 401. I'll be heading to the social afterward, so you must be willing to stay at the Lone Star until I'm ready to head out, or find your own way back. :)

PM me if you want a ride.

Lotsa neat sounding vehickes. Strangely not very many Japanese vehicles on the list. :?

I will drive from downtown Toronto (Queen & Spadina) and can give 3 people a ride. I will be staying for the social after. PM if you want a ride.

If I can book a day off, my car fits 3 with plenty of trunk space. :) Let me try to confirm with my manager.

I'm pretty sure I can make museum, but I won't be able to stay for the social after. Yes, how very anti-social of me. Anyway, I looked through the list of cars on display and I can't wait to see that 1981 Plymouth K Car #37 Pilot Car. As the joke goes, the "K" car was Lee Iaococca's gift to the mechanic.

I won't be able to go to the social afterwards, but if anyone needs a ride, I'm in Ajax and can pick up people at a GO station if they'd like a lift.

A GO train station. The closest one to you is at Main Station. From there you can take a GO train to Ajax Station and I'll meet you at the passenger pick up there and drive you to the location. I can drop you off at the social afterwards (and you can take the train from Pickering or Rouge Hill Stations back to Main). You'll want to get a day pass or two-ride ticket. PM me here and we can exchange contact information.

Hey bandw3,

I'm located around Main station. I would be able to give you and your friend a ride to the museum, but I can't go to the social afterward and I am not coming back home after the museum. So, if you are willing to find your own way home after, then let me know.

sorry can't offer a ride to the event due to things I need to do before, but can offer rides to the social from here if anyone needs a ride. Would be near Kennedy Commons prior to coming to the event.

Also can offer rides from the social back to the go station (Guildwood) in Scarborough, or Subway (Kennedy) in Scarborough.

Hope you guys enjoyed the event! It was great to see some new faces -- sorry I didn't get a chance to talk to you more! And of course, good to see the regulars too. :)

Hey Sue, thanks for organizing this event.

The cars were great to see and concentrated on parts and pieces of the cars mainly, since they seemed to need some more space to showcase them.

Anyways it was a great day, nice to meet some new people as well as the regulars.

I love the museum. Hard to shoot in but lots of nice old stuff.
I just hate when museums have stuff in them that I can remember
seeing when it was brand new :(

Thanks for organizing. This was my first event and I really enjoyed it. I am beginner and don't have a tripod yet so most of the pictures I took are blurry :(
Posted some pics in flickr.
