Details:

What: BCPV Victorian Christmas event
When: Sunday December 20th 2009
Time: 11AM
Where: meet at the gate house of BCPV
Bring: Camera! and money to get in!

An annual favourite of TPMG members... Black Creek Pioneer Village does an excellent job in transforming the village with traditional decorations from that of the early pioneer era in Upper Canada. The village closes early this year for the season, rather than the traditional closing date of December 30th, this year they are closing on December 23rd for the season. Thus, why we are organizing the event for the 20th. Typically we have visited the village during the xmas break week.

We will arrive for 11am when the village opens. We will head into the village and shoot for a couple of hours, then taking a break for lunch at the Town Hall around 1pm, and completing our visitation probably around 3-4pm, depending on how people are feeling. Should be a fun event!

For more information on admission and directions, please visit: http://www.blackcreek.ca/

Really wish I could go but bad timing. I'll probably be popping up there some time earlier. Hopefully with snow.

PLEASE NOTE: The half-way house restaurant is going to be closed this day for reservation only Christmas Dinner. Thus we will not be able to go to the restaurant as we normally would. Please bring a lunch! We will go to the Town Hall, and have lunch midst shooting. They also have sandwhiches and beverages available in the main giftshop.

Does that mean the Brewery won't be open for us to visit as well?

The brewery probably is, although you do have to buy a $4 tour ticket, as its a seperate attraction.

If anyone is interested, I have a family pass (two adaults/two kids) that is good until Dec 31. I won't be able to use it, so just a pm and it's yours.

If you do not like the date I have chosen as the organizer of the event, you are more than welcome to create your own Ad-hoc event at TPMG, and organize your own outing on the 19th. Thank you.

A couple of us are doing sunrise colours (6:45am) at the Port Credit harbour before heading to Black Creek --if anyone is in the area and want to join us.

darn.... I was hoping it would be overcast. Maybe I'll get in some HDR shooting then.

Remember folks! BRING A LUNCH -- or you will end up having to buy sandwhiches at the main giftshop, which are not the greatest, but they are ok.

Sorry, nothing was arranged, and I have a membership - so I have already paid. I think group rates need to be pre-arranged.

I think people here would appreciate if you think of that next time you organize such a thing

As someone who did organize an event with a group discount (Bird Kingdom, Niagara Falls in 2008), I can tell you it was NOT easy to do, and INCREDIBLY stressful. I didn't know how many people were going to attend, and we had to pay for everyone up front, so I had to collect money outside the door. Some people had already arrived and paid, so that threw me off with the total, and it was more complicated than organizing a trip for 150 students (which I have done many, many times). I understand how people like to get group discounts, as I do too, but I don't think people understand how much work there is involved in getting the discount. I'd suggest for events like this that you check to see if there are discounts offered through Shopper's Drug Mart ('cause you can get a free Optimum card) or through Attractions Ontario. That way you don't have to depend on other people to show up to ensure that you get that group discount. What happens if you only get 19 people attending?

Sorry about your troubles Sue, but I believe that is what organizing is called. Perhaps this is only my communist thinking talking here.

I would happily organize a group discount if people actually showed up when they say they are going to, but we rarely actually get everyone who says Yes in attendance, and often quite a few of the "maybe's" show up, who I don't count, and every now and then people will come who were not even registered for the event. So based on that history, I will not organize a group discount for an event. Its not worth my trouble. sorry, if that makes me a bad organizer, than I appologize, but we are all adults, and as suggested there are alternative venue's for getting a deal!

You are welcome to organize your own events and be left holding the bag for admissions you pre-paid for when people cancel and no show.

If you aren't willing to put your money where your mouth is, i'd humbly suggest keeping your mouth shut.

As someone that has in the past put their money where my mouth is no organizer should be expected to put their money where their mouth and pay people's entry fees. But to set up a group discount has been done successfully in the past for places like the Zoo, it is a nice gesture and if the minimum number of people don't show up it reverts to normal entry fees.

Not always.... as you'll remember at the Spadina House we ended up having to cough up the money for the people that didn't come, because we were expected to pay for the minimum 10 people. That was not cool.

Hello All,

I want to say a big thank you to everyone who came to the outing today! We did end up splitting up quite a bit, but maybe that is a good thing, as too many photographers in one place can get quite complicated, never mind the fact that we had the regular public in our way most of the time. Anyhow, I think I got some good stuff today, and if not, at least I have two loaves of the best bread in Toronto. I had a good time, and it was suggested to me on the way out that we should organize an outing to BCPV in the fall next year. So I will keep that in mind.
