We were so badly harassed by security last year that I'm not going to bother. They objected to the tripods, citing a non-existent by-law. You might want to take a letter with you from last year's event organizer. http://www.tpmg.ca/forum/viewtopic.php? ... a&start=30

Good luck.

Hmm, so it seems that I/we need to call the City before bringing my/our tripod? Well I'll try using a fast lens tonight, then see how they harassed some of us and bring the tripod next time.

so this is the reason why nobody is planning this event at the ad hoc...

Amazingly I saw lots of photographers using tripods at the square, it seems that they are lax this year.

It's a trip hazard than anything else. If you're away from the mass crowd, they don't care as was the case yesterday most likely.

I think they'll have the fireworks on every Saturday evening for the month of December, so plenty of chance to get a pic or two.

That's good, glad to hear they might have realized that they were getting free publicity and stopped acting like a bunch of noobs. BTW we were away from the crowd backed against a parking entrance railing when harassed. Power tripping seemed the true motivation there, not crowd hazards.

I should have checked this thread. I was there last night and it was a good time. Glad you guys suggested the event, otherwise I probably wouldn't have known about it.
