Details:

What: Wychwood Barns walkabout
When: Sat. Dec. 5, 2009
Time: 1 PM
Where: World Class Bakery
Bring: camera...

We tried this last year, but I set it up for a Sunday... this time we'll try a Saturday, and the artists' shops should actually be open. :)

Let's meet at the World Class Bakery (St. Clair and Christie) at 1:00 -- after waiting a few minutes for stragglers, we'll walk down to the Artscape Wychwood Barns:

http://www.torontoartscape.on.ca/places ... wood-barns

I imagine we'll spend an hour or two exploring the barns and the surrounding park, and after that (depending on the weather) we can walk around the neighbourhood a bit, and grab a bite or a drink.

See you there!

This is such a lovely area, I've been a couple of times since last year. Will see how my schedule looks closer to the date.

Dan have you checked to see what time the farmers market finishes? I think they have one every Saturday. I imagine it's finished by one; but I'm not sure.

Yes, I remember doing this one last year as well, but it wasn't a bad trip though. I enjoyed the Faema stopover last year, and wouldn't mind going there afterwards again. I'll be coming over straight from my college course so I'll make it

I checked the website and the farmers market is on from 9 to noon in case anyone wants to hit the market before the event...

Hmm... thanks for that info. If there's a strong demand for an earlier meetup time, I can make the start time a bit earlier. (I picked 1 'cuz I don't like to get up too early. ;)

Or, as Elaine suggests, the keeners can do the market and then come up to the bakery for the official start (or something like that).

I'm still a newbie and will be asking questions, hope that is ok? I also think this may be a good opportunity to practice HDR.

Questions are always welcome!

(I haven't actually done HDR myself, but if you need someone to explain how we didn't have HDR back in the days of film, I'm your guy. ;)

it might be, although you can do HDR on just about any subject, but it works much better on subjects which have a lot of contrast / bright colouration, such as rusty old cars, barns, abandoned places... etc.

I just recently got into HDR myself, and I am totally addicted!

(on HDR) Not to mention a subject that isn't moving since you have to take multiple shots at different exposures to produce an HDR image.

And we did have HDR in the film days...Charles Wyckoff (1906 - May 9, 1998) was well known for his detailed pictures of nuclear explosions on the cover of Life magazine in the 40's. Another name for HDR back then was "tone mapping". You can read the history of HDR going back as early as 1850 at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_imaging

Tonemapping is what actually makes those awesome HDR photos you like, without it, it looks just like a simple exposure blending

Hi - so I take it 1 pm is still the official start time even if the farmers are gone?
regarding the question about HDR - I've just started experimenting with it - you can see examples below with the Metro Reference Library and Montreal Notre Dame cathedral.. It's fun, at least for now.

By the way, HDR works best with indoors and artificial lights

I also really enjoy HDR but I prefer less over the top HDR work.

Yeah, you missed one of the rare non-gear talks :D Wish we had more of these rather than just talk about same ol' lenses n such :P

Thanks Dan and all for getting me out into the fresh air today.

As usual, I didn't do a lot of abstract art - mostly straight stock - and not many images. I stuck them here while I wait for pbase to get their counters back up again: http://www.pbase.com/reimar/yorkville
Can you tell I work for WSIB?

Here's a colorful one.

And Dimitri, my apologies. For some reason I thought there was a subway stop at Bathurst! Duh!! And now I notice you're in Etobicoke. I could have given you a ride. Next time, dude.

Thanks for everyone's help today! The mexican lunch was very nice. Dor, sorry you couldn't make it, thank you very much - I owe you one!

I don't know how to post a picture on here, but I added an HDR photo from today to my flickr page if anyone is interested in seeing my first real attempt.
