Details:

What: Holiday Displays and Lights
When: Thurs. Nov. 19, 2009
Time: 7PM
Where: Union Station, lower level by the Cinnabon
Bring: camera, tripod, warm clothes, comfortable shoes/boots

It's that time again! Christmas is coming! Holiday lights and displays are going up around us, and with the holidays approaching, I thought that it might be fun to try and capture some of that magic on our cameras.

We'll start off at Union Station, head over to BCE Place, and walk north to Yonge and Queen to check out the Bay's flagship store window display. We'll duck into the Eaton Centre to check out the huge tree, and then head north again to Yonge/Dundas Square. As we head north toward Yorkville, we'll see how cold we've gotten before stopping for a drink/bite to eat/warm-up spot.

Hope you can join me!

I'm not sure if I can make it that night, but I was looking at the Holtz Renfrew windows last night and I thought the penguins warming their mitts in front of the wood-burning stove looked real cute. But, the theme of human body mannequins with snowman heads (and the like), seems a bit "nightmarish." I hope the Bay displays something interesting in its windows. I was looking at the tpmg photos from last year's Christmas Bay windows and they were fantastic! Can the Bay outdo itself this year? We'll see.

It's also BPC Camera night - showing of Contest Winners.

So I won't be able to attend.

Anyone know how the Eaton Centre is with regards to taking photos? ie. is a tripod a bad idea?

I donţt know about their official policy but the place is pretty busy so a tripod might be cumbersome to setup. I'd bring a monopod.

Last year one of the security people told me that you need a permit to use a tripod, but handheld is okay.

Strange, I heard that it's supposed to rain that day, and I was getting worried I'd have to cancel.... Guess we'll see what happens the day of.

So it seems that the weather may not cooperate tomorrow. And I really don't want to do a lot of outdoor photography if it's going to pour. :(

I'll check the weather before heading down tomorrow and post something by about 3pm if the event is going to be canceled. If you don't think you'll be able to check the internet around that time tomorrow, and you'd prefer to call me to check the status of the event, make sure you've got my cell #. I can PM it to anyone who wants it before the event. I do have a physio appt. tomorrow afternoon though, so there will be a chunk of time where my phone will be turned off (around 4-4:45pm).

Well, it's raining quite heavily right now, and there are no signs of it letting up. I'm going to cancel this event. I may be able to reschedule for a date in the near future, but will have to check a few things before I know for sure.

Hope everyone sees this message before tonight.

I'm on my way too. Rain actually makes night shooting quite interesting.

Hope you guys have fun! If it was only misty or light rain, I might have made the trek in, but it was pouring (and maybe freezing rain) earlier so I decided to forego the 1.5h trip in.
