Details:

What: Rattray Marsh Walk
When: Sun. Nov. 29, 2009
Time: 2PM
Where: Gatehouse Drive at the end of Bexhill Road, Mississauga
Bring: camera, comfortable walking shoes, warm clothing

Let's head to the Rattray Marsh before the November Social! We'll meet on Gatehouse Drive at the end of Bexhill Road, as there isn't any parking right at Rattray, and word has it that Jack Darling is blocked off. After the walk through the marsh, we'll head up to Failte!

From the website:
Rattray Marsh is an "environmental gem" located in a unique natural setting within the City of Mississauga . As the last remaining lakefront marsh between Toronto and Burlington , this environmentally sensitive wetland offers a different experience for nature lovers. Rattray Marsh is home to a variety of wildlife and plants and a definite must see for avid bird watchers, photographers and nature lovers.

Just a head's up, last time I was there (a couple months back) they had the path between Jack Darling and Rattray blocked off for construction...an alternative for parking is at the end of Bexhill Rd, along Gatehouse Dr. There is an entrance to the marsh on that corner and street parking along the roads...

It's still blocked off however you can hoof it through the woods.

I generally park on Bexhill and enter Rattray from the bottom of that street. Depending on the number of people/vehicles the locals might get upset... 20 cars on their street!

That's good to know. Thanks for the info, guys! What about parking at that nearby school? Think we'd have any problems parking there?

I've seen a dozen cars parked on the street (gatehouse dr) and I've never had a problem adding mine to the pile - the locals seem rather friendly, at least the one's I've encountered...not sure about the school.

is it possible to carpool with someone to and from the walk and the social?

i can meet anywhere between hwy 400/finch ave to mississauga. i find driving to be too straining and i don't have much confidence in my driving skills to unfamiliar places.

hopefully i can join up with someone at a major centre with parking for my car for the entire day?

Got a wedding shower so I can't go. Otherwise I would have. :-) Sounds like fun.

Hi Antioxident,

I may be able to give you a ride - I am coming from the 404 and Steeles area and will have to pass by your approximate area.

Cheers,

Jordan

Looking at the possibility of going to Quebec City this weekend for the Vanier Cup (Go Queen's Go!), so I would probably be driving back while this event is going on.

So, on the advice of MikeES and vincedotca, maybe we should change the meetup location to Gatehouse Drive at the end of Bexhill Road. I'd been hoping to get down there and check it out myself, but have not had the chance.

Also, if you want my cell # before this event, be sure to PM me before noon on Sunday.

A nice walk today, and we just avoided the rain by minutes! We'll have to go back there in the spring....

Thanks Sue for organizing this event, and having a few extras join in at the last minute. It would definately be a good place to go back to in the spring again.
