Technically, wouldn't all our horizontal streets work for this? And if you want a canyon effect, wouldn't Queen or King work better then?

may be... I do not know the city enough to say one street is better than another. I am sure you can share good tips here... PLZ let us know where you going just in case someone would like to find a good spot.

Queen? from where?

Weatherman says today is cloudy. Tomorrow looks promising.

I think close by neighbouring streets would work as well. The towers stretching along King St. from Yonge to Bay might be a good option but you'd probably need to shoot from around Victoria or Church St.

I work at Yonge & Bloor so if you're going to be shooting down Bloor, I'd probably recommend shooting from around Church & Bloor if you've got a long lens to compress the shot and get the Xerox, CIBC and Bay buildings in frame. There's construction going on along Bloor so not sure if that'll be an eye sore.

Hummm... tempting.

Oh Google maps street view is a wonderful tool! You can get a rough idea how your framing would look like and the kind of buildings etc.

I am planning to go if weather is promising too.
So, is Queen or Bloor better choice??

My very bad attempt at HDR merging. Need a tripod and more time to explore the HDR merge options...

There was a 5+1/3 EV difference between the shadow areas and the sunset sky.

How would the more experienced people have done it?

Oh, also, I suppose this is one occasion where one needs a very long lens... It'd be nice to be able to optically crop down to frame the ROM and the church in the background.

I missed the sunset because I was looking at another location that did not turn out. But I did grab this shot of St. Mary's Church at Bathurst and Portugal Square, shot from Adelaide and Peter Streets.

I am using a Canon 50D and the kit lens (18-200mm). Actually, I crop the picture (to zoom in more) , that picture was shoot at 20mm focal length, with F/16 at 1/10sec, ISO 200.

You can have that "star effect" as long as you use a smaller aperture on any lens.
