Gauging interest here... is anyone considering a TPMG night out for Nuit Blanche on Oct 3rd?

Here's the link:
http://wx.toronto.ca/festevents.nsf/71f ... enDocument

We could start at 7PM and go as long as we like. There are over 130 projects around town, so lots to see and photograph (of course, with lots of breaks in between). I don't know Toronto well, but would be willing to plan a little with someone who does.

Any takers/interest?

Last year was mostly an over-crowded kiddy drunkfest so.... maybe pass this year

this is too bad... but there can't be hollering drunks at every corner and event... isn't some street drunkeness typical Toronto?? (apologies to those who live there!)

It was fine in the early stages.

And late at night, it was pretty cool too. But in the middle between 11-2. I'd agree it is a drunkenfest.

My thoughts exactly. Getting elbowed in the face by a drunk wasn't a good way to start the night last year so I'm gonna skip this yearly event.

Despite the drunkeness, there were quite a few photo-ops last year. I'm gonna go for a few hours.

working! Come by our art installation at CAMH -- 1001 Queen St. W. You get to walk right through our stage from one end to the other and see a brand new art installation which features stories of patients at the old Queen Street Lunatic Assylum between 1870 and 1950. Should be a lot of fun!

I went to last year's nuitblanche and enjoyed some exhibits while other exhibits seemed quite poor.

Are there any areas or exhibits that particularly interest you?

Queen West is a great area to roam around during NB! There are tons of locations between Dufferin and downtown.

better to go solo and map out what you want to look at. it is hard to keep track of a group and accomodate everyone's preferences to each exhibit.

Doesn't that just mean you don't sleep and go to the camera sale directly?

The thing ends at dawn anyways. around 7am.

Grab breakfast, and it's off to the camera show. =p

I might go. Last year I found the areas around Liberty Village really interesting. The lineups around Ryerson were too long, so I only went to the outdoor exhibits there. Queen West was where I found the most drunks the first year I went. You have to pick your spots. The jurying seems to have gotten tighter. You might like it/you might not, but it least it doesn't have a high percentage of things that look like art student projects so much anymore.

I've gone to Nuit Blanche for the last three years, and while I had a great time the first year, the last two years left a lot to be desired. I'm planning to give it a pass this year.

Tons of photography opportunity in this event for sure. And time for me to practice low light. I'm definitely going.

It's my first year in Toronto during this event and the drunken-fest a few people mentioned as well as how busy it is seems to be the general consensus out there. However, people are saying late in the evening (early morning) after 1am it seems to die down in regards to how busy it is. I was thinking of either heading out around that time or getting up early on Sunday, say like around 3am, and catching the tail end of everything.

I've been waiting for a chance to practice in low light and will probably try and rent a faster lens than my 17-85mm for the night. Anybody have any suggestions? I was thinking either the 28-70L f/2.8 or the 16-35L f/2.8 I just don't know if I'd need more of a wide-angle or a zoom... I could always rent both I guess :)

Last year was a bust yet previous to that there were plenty of interesting photo ops. The program this year seems to have some exciting exhibitions so I have high hopes.

Strange priorities buying equipment over doing photography. I'm going to be using some of the film I brought at last week's sale.

if you hit Nuit Blanche and you have an iPhone of Blackberry, be sure to download the official app to help navigate and plan your night.

...and also stargazing at York:

Click on "night event" for the night stuff.

(Should have a minimum number of drunks, I'm guessing.)

I found most events were underwhelming: "concept" over content.

I never have experienced drunkenness at events I visited.

The best by far, for entertainment and photography, were at Casa Loma stables. It was worth it to hang around for 1 - 2 hours as events changed, a few times the crowd left.

TTC advertises all night service. A big fat lie. I strongly advise super excellent walking shoes and a light camera bag, or a bicycle.
