Details:

What: Strobist Affair II
When: Saturday, October 24th, 2009
Time: 10am - till we want to leave
Where: Indoor Cinema
Bring: as much strobist gear you can, and of course, your rig

This is a second part to the previous event on Sept. 10th, and we will have models, but there will be a different spin this time.

If you liked the first one, we hope the second will be just as good, if not better ;)

This time, there will be a cost associated to participation as we will need to pay the piper eventually.

Estimate will be $10 / participant. This will cover costs of event and/or models, MUAs and HS's. This may change in the future, but I figure I'd put it out there now.

All models will sign a release form that is binding to any participating photographer for the event. All photos will be distributed to each model through the event organizers only to keep it fair for all photographers.

Any ideas for a location? Post is here, and a reason for suggesting the site, and we'll hold a poll on all selections.

is this date locked in or an arbitrary one? Because a night besides the 24th would work better for me... but I've said yes for the moment. maybe something will give.

i hope i get my gear before the date. Still figuring out what to get.

Anybody want to help me out? I want to be battery powered (lead acid accumulators don't count!) and mobile, not wired and studio bound. Minimal budget cos I'm a starving student, but yet I don't want gear to suck. I need one light stand and one modifier. I got the flash and trigger.

Thinking of AB 42" silver PLM with front diffuser, flash zebra swivel mount, AB 10" light stand. Good choices?

Just asking which slot I should register for. I just have a 580ex II and have a RF-602 with 3Rx that was shipped yesterday. I may pick up a 430ex II by the date also. Should I register in the middle slot because I don't have a clue what I am doing?

Nope, register that you'll be bringing gear since you're not just bringing your camera

actually, if it's a saturday, why not shoot at an earlier time? If you're doing this indoors in a studio, ambient light is not going to be a problem.

There still be time to talk about this, but will there be a theme? Halloween, perhaps? An opportunity for the MUA to go wild...?

Those are good choices, but it always depends on your budget... its the big deciding factor for much of the gear out there. If I win the lottery before then, we'll go shopping Mike ;)

ditto - earlier, like afternoon, would be ideal. I probably have plans for mid-evening

+1 on the earlier time slot. If we do a studio gig then we could entertain a much earlier start time.

I'm not liking the halloween theme. Plenty of Halloween subjects to shoot on Church St the following weekend.

how about zombies, zombies are cool!

i guess it would have to be indoor if during the day, and i assume studio has to have room-like division so that each group's lights don't interfere with another? not sure, never been to studio.

ya, not sure how to operate with this many people and the size of the studio... I may look into the rentable theatre.

Who's Ya for studio? and who's NAY?

Originally, I was going to leave themes at each different "station", like 1 strobe, 1 chair, then 2 strobes and a box, and 3 strobes and a stool

Depending on the location though, I have a bunch of ideas.

Through out some themes ppl ;) Fashion / wardrobe concepts / styles / emotions / etc...

Brainstormin time

What's the point of getting pretty models and disguising them into zombies? Wouldn't you want to accentuate their beauty, not disguise it. :D

the job of a model is to make the story come alive.

they don't need to look pretty. sometimes being pretty takes away from the story.

Nay for studio. We got all winter for that stuff.

which reminds me, oct 24th is the date for another Toronto Zombie Walk lol, if we shoot during day, i might just go see zombies again during evening!

yeah i think location really has to decided first for us to plan the other parts. i was thinking even condo party rooms will not be bad. they have basic furniture and lot of them have curtains you can close.

I'd like to shoot outdoors, where there's the challenge of balancing ambient, and a more varied and lively background.

But I'd be ok to shoot in a studio too. It'd be an interesting and learning experience for sure.
