Location?

Some discussion was made in the past of shooting it at Pearson, and others at or near the Ex.

I'm gonna try Pearson then maybe Lakeshore the day after, depending on my schedule. And not sure which day I'll head down.

BTW, there were two CAF CT-156s that took off in tandem off using runway 5 on Saturday evening, not sure if they did a fly by over The Ex as I just got out of Wah Sing on Baldwin and seen them above plus some other jet that I didn't see. Runway 5 runs north/south, so drivers on the 401 would have caught a good glimpse of them.

I'm interested. A couple of years ago we sat down by the lake to the west of the CNE grounds and got a good view of everything. Can't remember exactly where we were though.

There were 2 pairs of airplanes that flew over the BMO Field during the Canadian Forces Military Salute, but that didn't start until 7:30 pm. I don't know airplanes at all, so I can't identify them.

I shot some pics at Pearson 2 years ago. It's great because you can shoot take offs and landings plus the pilots put on a little show before heading down to the CNE.

Where would you shoot from at the Pearson? Do you go to south of the 401 like the Max Ward Park or north of the airport near Torbram and Derry? or other locations?

I shot from Bramalea Rd south of Derry Rd E 2 years ago. Will be there on Sunday on a Silver/Red Honda F4i all the way down at the end of the road.

you'll have to move your location a bit west since that spot is enclosed ticket-area: http://www.cias.org/content/view/41/57/

I'm interested Eddie.

Agree that the location on your map looks to be within the ticketed area.

Thank you for bringing up the location issue. I guess we have to move the location to the west of the VIP section. I think the area would be packed due to the VIP section so it important to show up early.

Check out Tom's pics on flickr. I believe he works with CTV and flies out in their newschopper but also gets access to a lot of parts that we mere mortals don't have access to.

Blue Angels took off and went for a quick flight early this afternoon. Great way I suppose to kill productivity for those working in the general area!

got an email from CIAS, saying that some people trying to get City to ban the airshow due to excessive noise :x . I guess the fireworks would be the next target.

Sigh, they can't put up with 3-4 days of noise and realize the economic benefits?

Seriously, what is the email address for CIAS/city everybody that loves seeing the CIAS should write to them and let our voices be heard.

Chances of me going to this is high, but most likely head out to the roof at Ontario Place tomorrow. If anybody is planning on going let me know through PM.

LOL, the girlfriend initially had zero interest in seeing planes/jets fly up above but with all the activity downtown, she wants to go and see them now!

roof of the Ontario Place? how do you get there?
I was at the practice today and blue angels put up a quite impressive display. F-22 is also amazing.

The roof is the Atlantis building. Unfortunately there's an additional fee to get up there.

If shooting from Pearson, would a 70-200mm lens be fine or would you need something longer?

Depends... if you're shooting infield (and with a bit of luck not getting kicked out), the tower is around Midfield Road (which is not accessible) but you can get close to there by using Britannia Road with the tower in view. From what I've been told, the jets and planes will more than likely buzz the tower, and I think a 70-200 might be sufficient. But if you want to shoot at other locations, and this really all depends which runway is being used, 70-200 could be enough if you're close enough (ie. at Tim Horton's on Airport Road) but if you're watching at other known locations, 70-200 might not be enough.
