Details:

What: Liberty Village Street life
When: Wednesday, July 22nd 2009
Time: 7PM
Where: In front of Balzac's Coffee @ Liberty Street & Hanna Ave.
Bring: Camera of course!

I've driven through Liberty Village hundreds of times, and have even done a little shooting in the hood myself. So why not go on a little excursion? We'll check out some of the architecture, and things that make this neighborhood unique in Toronto. When we get tired, there are a number of restaurants in the area that we can check out.

BALZAC'S COFFEE IS LOCATED AT 43 HANNA AVE.

There's another Balzac's?!

Maybe this is a bad night for this, especially with the TFC game scheduled for that night too: http://web.mlsnet.com/schedule/scoreboa ... ?team=t280

I can probably make this one considering I live there. Funny thing is I haven't really walked around the neighbourhood to shoot as much as I should or could (other than walking to Metro or Starbucks). This one is the only photo (that I can remember) I've ever taken in the area.

As I'm in the area I can make this for sure, however I do see the concern of it being an FC game night. The place will be over run with soccer fans.

I don't think its a huge issue ... by the time we start shooting - most of them will be at the game, or on their way. And we'll be done way before they get out... so finding a place to go should be ok. Maybe leaving will be an issue. But I work around the corner, and have co-existed with soccer fans for a while now, and never had any complaints.

While there is Google Maps, I prefer the City of Toronto's own map site since it also shows an aerial view (if you enable it)...plus you can search for addresses, intersections (as in this outing), postal code or place name:
http://map.toronto.ca/imapit/iMapIt.jsp?app=TOMaps

If you're travelling by public transit (TTC) this is their site:
http://ttc.ca/

If I'm on an outing or even doing the garage/yard sales in unfamiliar areas, I'll carry a "Perly's" map book that shows all the streets in the city and surrounding area; you can buy a Perly's in most book stores, or even Canadian Tire:
http://www.canadiancartographics.com/perlys-map-products.aspx

These days you can also buy a GPS device that gives you streets, and you can even program a route into.

Personally (although I'm only looking at the maps and have never been there) I'd take 504 King streetcar westbound from either King or St. Andrew subway station (remembering to get a transfer where you paid your fare if you don't have a Metropass), and get off right at Atlantic (if it stops there, otherwise Jefferson is the closest stop and walk 1 block east back to Atlantic), and then walk south to Liberty.

If you're coming from the East-West subway you can take the Dufferin 29 bus SOUTHBOUND to King Street, take the 504 King streetcar east and get off at Atlantic (again remembering to keep your transfer with you). However I always remember the 29 bus being quite full when I have taken it, so taking the route in my previous paragraph would probably be the better option.

Just joined the group. Would like to attend this event. Should I be brining my tripod? Not sure what is the etiquette on shooting in the city.

Tripods are fine if you're willing to carry it.

nobody can stop you from using a tripod on a city sidewalk... unless its the police. But they have to have a darn good reason to ask you to stop using a tripod (such as public safety issue).

there is a huge green P lot right across the street from where we are meeting - I don't think it will be full. There is also street parking on Jefferson street - which is metered.

YES: There is a stop at Atlantic Ave & King St.

YES: Take the 504 Car - its closer!

YES: Its not hard to get there.

Hey guys,

just realized I made a booboo on the location -- it is on Libert Street, but at Hanna Ave. - not Atlantic. That being said -- its 1 VERY SHORT block away.. You can see it from Atlantic.

If you are looking for a landmark, there is a massive smoke stack on Liberty street between Atlantic and Hanna.

The green P lot I was speaking of is on the south side of Liberty between Hanna and Atlantic.

For the record, Hanna is EAST of Atlantic.

For the record, I would assume that most folks here at adults, and know how to read maps, and figure out where they are going.

Try navigating the streets in Meunster, Germany. The whole town is built in a circle. Bloody confusing.

Oops...I didn't mean to come off sounding like THAT...guess I shouldn't post when I'm sleep deprived (up for more than 36 hours). Just trying to be helpful, like when I posted the TTC directions.

that would be easier for me  old towns were built like that, usually around a fortress or castle, I am used to those

You can also take the Ossington Bus from Ossinton or Eglinton West subway stations, it goes right through Liberty Village.

The hourly forecast says it's not supposed to start until 10pm:
