Details:

What: The Beach @ Dusk
When: Tuesday July 14th 2009
Time: 6:30PM
Where: MARS Diner @ 1987 Queen St. E. (at Waverly)
Bring: Camera & Tripod

The Beach is a nice place to visit in the summer, and with the later hours of the sun, we'll meet and actually reverse the order of things! That's right -- we're going to meet first at the MARS Diner, eat some dinner, then head along Queen Street, possibly head down towards the lifeguard station .. and as the sun sets, get some awesome sunset shots. If it happens to be overcast, then we'll just hit the street, and do some street photography / night shooting. So I propose we meet @ MARS Diner for 6:30pm, then head out to shoot around 8pm.

Don't forget to bring a tripod if you have one for the night / dusk shooting.

I put myself down as a maybe, but I won't be able to confirm as it will depend on the traffic report when I leave my aunt. I won't make it by 6:30 though.

depends on where you're coming from......

Queen Street streetcar will take you right into the beach if you're coming from the west end or downtown.

By Subway - you can get off at either Woodbine or Main Street, and take the Woodbine bus 92 south, or the Main Street 64 south to Queen St. E.

If coming by Main St Bus 64 - walk west at Queen Street, if coming by the Woodbine bus, walk east along Queen St.

Just look for a group of people with cameras, tripods and orange tags on their bags. I don't think you'll miss us.

Sharing cellphone numbers is always good for photowalks just in case anybody gets split up.

Sorry guys, my cell/blackberry belongs to work, and in principle, I do not give out my number to people that I don't know very well. Nothing personal. thanks,

David

PS: Seeya'll tomorrow @ the meetup location. I would think we'll be there until at least 7:30-7:45pm before we start to go out and shoot.

Tonight was fun.

David, turns out I was on to something. There is a custom function that defines what control is used to change aperture, look under Controls... it's f5 'command dials' on the d200, so your exact function may vary. Set to either the sub-dial or aperture ring... and apparently you can enable it to allow aperture control from the lens on even your 28-70/2.8.

Apparently programming the AI-S lens info also enables matrix metering.

Seriously... I don't even shoot Nikon... why am I bothering with this information?

Thanks David for setting this up it was a great night.

Gee Chris you know you love a challenge to try and solve a problem, no matter what brand of camera it is. After all you love all this technical info of cameras and lenses.

Now if there were no Sony what would you own then -- likely a Nikon!!!

That's not news. I've stated that on many occasions in the past.

Thanks to everyone who came last night! It was a good meetup, and despite the lack of some interesting clouds.... I think I got a couple of shots that might work.

See you at the next one!
