Details:

What: Giarloch Gardens, Rattray Marsh & Cranberry Cove Park Macro/Flower/Bug/Landscape/Whatever event
When: Sun. Jul 12, 2009
Time: 11AM
Where: Parking lot at Gairloch Gardens
http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=43.461693,-79.650711&daddr=&hl=en&geocode=&mra=mi&mrsp=0&sz=16&sll=43.460551,-79.649098&sspn=0.011494,0.01929&ie=UTF8&z=16
Bring: macro lens, extension tubes, camera, you...

Dmitrijs (PotatoEye) and I are going to be heading to the Centennial Park Conservatory and (weather permitting) James Gardens on Sunday so that he can try out my kenko tubes, so I figured why not make an adhoc out of it. I have a car and can pick up a few people along the bloor west subway line if needed. We can start at the conservatory, head to James Gardens if it doesn't rain, then whoever wants can grab a late lunch afterwards.

EDIT:
Due to the city strike, we've decided to change locations (see messages below). Weather permiting. If you need a ride, message me before the weekend. See you there!

Cranberry Cove Park aka the Rhododendon Gardens

This is a City Of Toronto run facility -- are you sure its open with the strike going on?

Oh yeah...stupid strike...I just got back from a few week vacation and that pesky strike popped up while I was gone...
...to avoid the picketers (which apparently are at the entrance to Centennial even though the conservatory itself is closed), we could, weather permitting, check out the following instead:

Gairloch Gardens
http://www.gairlochgardens.com/Map/map.html

Rattray Marsh
http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=43.515039,-79.606333&spn=0.022968,0.038581&z=15

Cranberry Cove Park aka the Rhododendon Gardens
http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=43.540787,-79.592793&spn=0.011479,0.01929&z=16

All three are on the other side of Port Credit and, while they help avoid any toronto city striker problems, would require a bit of driving.
I could take a max of 4 others in my car.
Otherwise, I guess it'll be a postponement until after the strike...

I'd really like to come, but I might need a ride from the Bloor line as well. Have you decided on the park?

Actually, if I get a car for Sunday, I could pick someone up at Runnymede/Old Mill. I'll let you know if I get it by Friday

Might be too east for you, but Toronto Botanical Gardens/Edwards Gardens (Leslie and Lawrence E) is open and it is very picturesque. It is quite a popular location/therefore lots of people at times and perhaps not the greatest ttc access. The virtues of the garden are the blooms are gorgeous and sometimes a toad or even a fox may be willing to pose. Just a suggestion, Em

I could meet up at Rattray or Rhododendron Gardens, but would need a ride to Gairlock. Where are you meeting 1st?

Mike, thanks for organizing this!
Dmitrijs, thanks for the ride.
It was a beautiful day, beautiful gardens and beautiful lake. I had a wonderful time! You all are fun to hang out with :).
