Details:

What: Mill Day 2
When: Sunday July 5th 2009
Time: 9AM
Where: Tim Horton's @ Bayly & Harwood In Ajax.
Bring: Camera & stuff... Sun block possibly.

Following in the footsteps of the July 4th event, we will meet at the Tim Horton's in Ajax - at the intersection of Harwood & Bayly (its in the strip plaza on the north west side of that intersection). We will then proceed east on the 401 to 35/115, taking the 115 route to Peterborough, once we get to Peterborough we proceed on highway 7 east following the signs for Lang & Hope mills.

The Lang Grist mill is part of Lang Pioneer Village, the village is an excellent place to visit (Maureen and I scoped it out on June 21st), its very similar to Black Creek Pioneer Village - but offers a much different and more rural setting than BC. There is an admission charge of $8 per person. Parking is free. If you do not bring lunch with you, don't worry - they have a snack hut, which offers hot dogs, hamburgers, and more.

The Hope Saw Mill - Which we are visiting second, was built in 1836 by William Lang (of Lang Mill). This will be the first day of the operating season for the Hope Sawmill, there is a small nominal admission charge - I think its $2... I'll double check that, as I have the brochure.

We also have the option of visiting several other mills on the way back to Toronto. I always recommend a visit at Tyrone Mill. The schedule will go something like this:

9am - meet @ Tim's in Ajax
10:30am - approx arrival at Lang Village - See village and mill, lunch onsite at the snack shack (bring your own lunch, or buy there)
2:15pm - Head to cars - leave for Hope Sawmill
2:20pm - arrive at Hope sawmill, park and tour mill grounds.
3:20pm - Leave Hope Sawmill - head to Tyrone. Also options to visit other mills in Bowmanville including Vanstone Mill, and the Cream Of Barley Mill.
5pm - End of day - optional eat @ East Side Mario's in Whibty on way home.

Please arrange ride's via this thread (Maureen - I am coming with you).

While this sounds really interesting, I will most likely be doing last-minute packing for my trip. Have fun!

David -- Guaranteed seat in front -- pick up Ajax
Chris -- Yes seat in middle -- meet at my place
Potatoe Eye -- yes a seat for you too -- Pick -up at Kennedy Subway

I'll work out the times later

Maybe Maureen should invest in a Gray Hound type bus.
It would be easier for everyone :)

I may consider driving straight to Hope Sawmill for 10:30 am, and doing some shootine en route.

Sounds good. I don't think Maureen has the facilities to park a large bus Tim.... It wouldn't fit down the alley between her building and the fence.

I had to chuckle at the "more rural" phrase.
BCPV is in the GTA, Canada's biggest urban area.

Lang Pioneer village is near Keene. I'm trying to picture it in my mind. I"m not sure if they have four stop signs or an actual traffic light.
I believe Keene has 4 stop signs.

I know a slightly shorter route than the one you are taking. And it's mostly paved. ;)

Are you aware that your route goes close to Warsaw Caves? I don't think you would want to include it in the same day but you might consider it for a future trip. And IIRC there is a reptile zoo close to your route. Or at least there was.

Also I think Serpent Mounds with their petroglyphs are not too far away either.

Yes, I know about all of the locations you are talking about. and I have been there. Something to consider for the future, but for now, we are concentrating on Lang & Hope mills. As for the route - its the simplest most direct (people will not get lost) route. There are lots of ways to get there, but given the highway speed of the 401 and 115 ... its probably the fastest way there.

Like I said originally -- it was just a suggestion. Depending on what time we leave Hope sawmill, we can head due south to Port Hope, and visit the Molson Mill (exterior), and then heading back towards the GTA - stop in at the Baltimore Mill. I've been to all of the mills in the Durham/Claringtron/Port Hope regions, so nothing new for me.

Sorry everyone the Bus... I mean van is already full.

1) Maureen -- drivers seat
2) David -- front seat -- pick-up at home at 8:45am
3) Chris -- middle seat behind David -- meet at my place 8:00am
4) Dmitrijs-- any available seat -- meet at Kennedy subway 8:15am
5) Yesh -- any available seat -- meet at Kennedy subway 8:15am
6) Jamie -- any available seat -- meet in Ajax or TBD???

Note Kennedy Subway meet in the Kiss & Ride Area. Come up to the ticket both area from the subway level and either head down the hallway and up the stairs or exit behind and beside the ticket booth and cross the road to the Kiss & Ride

See everyone Sunday morning bright and early. Hope to see both Paolo and Richard both there too.

Just a reminder car pools can also be made at the Tim Hortons lot in Ajax to avoid several cars having all go. I've left my van there before and it was fine.

I'm going to have to pass today. Came down with some nasty virus towards the end of last week and haven't been able to shake it off.

Have a great day!
