What: Studio shoot
When: TBD
Time: TBD
Where: TBD
Bring: Camera, tripod (if you wish), model

Hi all,

This is post is for a feeler to see if there would be anyone interested in splitting up studio time for a day on one of the upcoming weekends.

I was thinking that we could rent the studio for the day and then split up hours amongst a number of photographers. Feel free to split up one of the time slots amongst a few photographers.

The studio will most likely be in Toronto.

Cheers!

How much do studios normally cost per day?

Are lights generally included?

Lights and usual strobist/studio equipment should be included.

Alas, I am not good enough to actually use a studio to any good effect.

Would you guys let me stand in a corner and just observe quietly? You're welcome to use me as an assistant. =P

If I remember correctly, from what I've seen it is usually around $250 for about 8 hours or so. It's been a while since I've last looked at studio pricing.

Yes PotatoEYE. You would either have to hire your own model, find one that would work for free or bring a willing friend :)

How many interested people are we looking for before dates are discussed to do the event?

Since it was mentioned that the equipment is provided, I would love the opportunity to experiment with various set ups and if we cannot get a model, I suggest that we can all take turns as models. This is all for learning anyways. This way we would get the perspective of the model as well as the photographer.

I would love to see what kind of creative things other people can come up with.

I could offer my humble self to be put in the model's shoes, however I feel uncomfortable in front of the lens

Is this a group event or are we just splitting the cost for the studio?

I think it's whatever we come up with.

Personally I think I would want 1/3 or 1/4 of two time slots.

agreed. If it's an 8 hour day, I wouldn't mind 1/3 or 1/4 either.

What I meant was I would want to share a couple time slots with a 2 or 3 other people.

if i could have some solo time that would be great. not to sound like a jerk or anything, but my model would prefer some privacy.

ohhh lol. =_="

Well, I have to side with Oscar by saying that I want a solo slot as well. I guess as of now, we have two photogs who want their own time slot.

Zeekid I think you have a winning thread. :D

I think it might be time to add up times.
If Thericyip wants 2 hours by himself that would count as 2 hours.
Delsorbo as one hour.

I would want maybe 3 hours with two other people. So I would count one hour.
I would also be interested in a macro table with lighting if possible.

That's four hours. Assuming people want to share with me.

Zeekid I hope you don't mind me offerng my own two cents.
I think there is enough interest to move forward.
but that can only happen if everybody who is interested says exactly what they are interested in.
i.e. time alone or time with others.
I think it would probably be about $35.00 per hour.
Maybe we can add it up that way, in terms of $
So I would be in for $35.00

Hi all,

Sorry I haven't moved forward on this because I've been a bit sick and quite busy at the office as well.

Yes, we definitely have enough people. We can also consider booking 2 days if we don't have enough slots for everyone.

I personally would like 2 hours with my model since she prefers to do a solo shoot with someone she knows..ie me.

Does anyone have any experiences with the studios in downtown Toronto? I've only been to the one in Newmarket. I'm just wondering which one would be best for our needs.

I have a studio downtown (close to Gladstone Hotel Queen W and Dufferin), have the lights/equipment and can probably get a model and walk you guys though a studio shoot and then let you experiment/go wild.

I'm paying on a monthly basis plus studio time, so if we want to do a 8 hrs or 4hrs we can split the cost of the studio between the photogs, gear/model will be included. if you're really serious about it, i can get an MUA as well.

the cost is $100 for 8hrs and $50 for 4 hrs.

The only problem is that i don't think we can fit more than 5-6 ppl there, so it'll be 5 photogs + 1 model max, we can split this on several dates (weekends).

if you're interested let me know and i'll set up the events/shoot.

What we could do is have the first 2 hours as a group session. The rest of the day could be solo shoots. Split an 8 hour day into 4 sessions. Then we can either have the same schedule on the next day or just 4 solo sessions. That will depend on how many people would like to learn from a group session.

Personally, I wouldn't mind having a quick lesson but I would also want a solo slot for myself as well. It's been awhile since I used a studio so I need to refresh my mind.

Hi everyone.

It looks like my model won't be available for this event and so I'm going to drop out of this as I have a lot of other things to do.

Would anyone be willing to take over the organization of this event?
