Details:

What: Friday evening Beaches Jazz Festival walk 'n shoot
When: Fri. July 24, 2009
Time: 7 PM
Where: Meet in front of Pizza Pizza, Queen and Woodbine
Bring: camera; maybe a monopod for when it gets darker

You know the drill! Or, if you're new to TPMG, here's the deal: I usually lead a group of jazz and photo enthusiasts along Queen Street on the Friday of the Beaches International Jazz Festival.

http://www.beachesjazz.com/

Actually "lead" is a bit of an exaggeration; it gets mighty crowded, and we usually splinter off into little groups -- but we usually try to re-unite at the end of the evening. It's always a fun time, assuming the weather co-operates (and it always does, pretty much).

See you there!

In whatever column you chose, "All that jazz!" or "Maybe..." the word "(Confirmation)" would be added to become "All that jazz! (Confirmation)" or "Maybe... (Confirmation)"...just click that link again and you will be confirmed, although it's not really necessary, and even though you may confirm things happen of course; last week I had confirmed for Harbourfront but something happened and I couldn't make it!

Just to add some TTC directions:
* Take 92 Woodbine South Bus from Woodbine Subway Station
OR
* Take the 501 Queen St Streetcar east from Queen or Osgoode Subway Stations

Note for those intending to use the Queen streetcar: as of 6pm on the night of the event (and every night of Streetfest) the streetcar will be turning off Queen at Kingston Rd. due to Queen street being closed off for the event.

It's just last year there were some complaints raised about not knowing about this in advance, so now you know! It's just over 1/2 a km walk from Kingston Rd. to Woodbine.

So either arrive early and grab a pizza or do some shopping, take the Woodbine bus, or be prepared to walk the extra distance after 6pm.

And a little teaser from last year's event, just because it gets dark is no reason to put the camera away...this is a 2.5 second shot (handheld without IS), no flash, f/3.5, 28mm (and you'll see the reason why there's no streetcar service):

I'm debating, this festival is like the one on the Danforth. A little too popular for its own good.

Thanks, Mike, for adding the TTC directions. (I strongly recommend the Woodbine bus!)

Hmm, I should let a car owner post on this subject. I only know that the closer you get to the site, the harder it will be to find parking. You might want to consider parking at Finch (or some other subway station) and taking the subway & bus from there.

I would like to suggest (as usual -- call me a traditionalist!) that we attempt to re-unite for post-event ice cream at Ed's Honest Scoop -- that's at 2224 Queen Street East, about 1.5 km east of where we're starting out.

Say, 10-ish.

I know we sometimes get there and find it closed (or open, but too crowded). I searched the web but couldn't find their hours (yes, I could phone them, but not right now as it's the middle of the night ;). Anyway, fingers crossed; it's a pretty good post-event meeting spot.

Hey, if anyone needs my cell, send me a PM.

See ya!

Hey Dan, sorry to correct you .... Ed might be an 'honest' guy, but his store is actually called "Ed's Real Scoop"

Park your car up above Kingston Rd. and walk down... or park it beyond Beach Ave in the east end of the beaches.. and walk down from there. No matter what, do it early! As parking will fill up fast.

Yes, yes... It's funny, I was even thinking "write Real, don't write Honest"... and then I went ahead and wrote Honest. of course you are right. I blame Honest Ed's in the Annex for getting me all confused!

Regarding the weather issue yes it doesn't look good at this point, but if you look at the hourly forecast the rain is supposed to end after 6pm:

(click "Next 12 Hours" if the evening isn't shown).

Thanks Mike.

Last time I clicked, that still seemed to be the case. So, fingers corssed! Bring your umbrella just in case, but hopefully the rain will be winding down by the time we get started.

See u all tonight!

lol.

should have left it as a small image, and left it to gutter minds to interpret.

well, at least it's a better (?) message than Samwell's (youtube.com) And I blame South Park for introducing me to that...

Well, I was there with you guys in spirit! Unfortunately, was there with someone else. But I did take pictures!

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/riellanart/3761058396/" title="What's that you got there, sonny boy? by RielLanart, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2432/3761058396_a10dbeb5b3.jpg" width="500" height="333" alt="What's that you got there, sonny boy?"></a>

Yeah, I didn't like the fact that at the end I had to rely on a Nikon to see what was happening. Sometimes, I feel that these events are a wee bit crowded.

Alright guys, I saw a secret spy man walking around the jazz fest. Can you spot him? It's really really hard but if you look for the right signs you'll see it too.
