The results of the poll are in and it looks like we're heading to New York City. Next step is figuring out numbers. Ideally it would be nice to have a maximum of 3 6-seat vehicles going...anything more than that may be overwhelming both to the group and to the place we stay at.

The tentative dates are July 6, 7 and 8, leaving Toronto on Friday morning at 8am, and coming back from NYC on Sunday in the early afternoon. Accommodations last time were the YMCA near west Central Park, which was inexpensive and conveniently located, so unless anyone has other suggestions, that's likely where we will stay again this time, unless we can find a decent hotel that's centrally located.

If you think you might be in, please express your interest by replying to the poll. Once we figure out if there's enough interest for that date, we'll set the actual event up.

As a side note, it looks like the Coney Island boardwalk is being torn down after this season, so if you've never been or you've gone and want to go again, this might be a good time to do that!!

I think we mean July 6-7-8, right?

Anyway, I'm in. (I might fly down in which case, well, I wouldn't be part of the car crowd... will let you guys know. I will be staying beyond the Sunday to do some of my own stuff and may, possibly, be arriving ahead of time as well.)

But anyway, I would be happy to lead a "small group" of TPMGers around New York on Saturday and/or Sunday... I imagine we'll split up into small groups like last time? (There are many good reasons to split up into "bite sized" groups, so to speak. We can always re-unite later for a pub session or some evening shooting etc.)

I fully endorse the West Side YMCA -- stayed there many times, cheap dining room for brekkie etc., each room with TV and A/C, etc etc. (Actually I've only stayed in their single rooms but I think they have doubles or larger, too. Easy to find out on their website I'm sure.)

http://www.ymcanyc.org/index.php?id=1134

Perhaps people can list what they're most interested in. In my own case, I would probably seek out less-touristy spots / architecture / neighbourhood-urban-people kind of shots. (Might also be tempted to drop into B&H... eek! ... I really shouldn't.)

Dates fixed.

Probably best not to get ahead of ourselves just yet, and leave this to figuring out numbers. This will end up getting messy trying to plan activities before the event is even set up and we know who's even going. :)

Btw, B&H isn't open on Saturdays!

I'm going to be in NYC the first weekend in May - won't have time for photography though. So I gotta think about this a bit....

At this point I'm just a weak maybe. I'd like to go, but money will probably be tight.

In. For sure. Would absolutely love to go. And I'll get first round of drinks on the first night just to thank you guys for organizing this. Really hoping to get some shots of Yankee Stadium before the move.

Cheers!

A very definate, strong, for sure maybe ;)

I'll know closer to crunch time how things are working out money/work wise, but I should be able to make it happen, and would love to go. And for whoever is keeping track of such things, I don't have a car, and am interested in pretty much anything... My main goal right now is to just go to New York for longer than a day

I wish I could but I'm already in the hole at work as far as vacation days go. If I can manage to put in a week of overtime, I'd be all set.

I put myself as a strong maybe. I definitely want to make a trip to NY and this could be a lot of fun. But it sounds like a lot of driving for such a short stay.

I won't be able to make it either. I'll be on a road trip with my son to Whistler around then

Hrm, Well, i was already planning a trip down the weekend after that, so i am probably a no for that trip, but if my other plans fall through, i would be interested.

Out of curiosity, if I go the weekend after, what did you do regarding parking at the Central Park YMCA if you drove down? We are debating driving vs. flying down.

I am probably in ... there is a possibility that I may have to be out of town for work sometime in July and that may conflict with these dates. Hopefully not though.

I do not have a car, and would not be comfortable driving - but I am an EXCELLENT navigator. :-)

Strong maybe! Those dates work really well for me and I love NYC. Anyone interested in catching a show at night? Something like Avenue Q?

I'm already going to NYC (and New Jersey) May31-June 03, so I'm not sure if I can swing it again a month later. It's too soon to know. :?

How much is it to stay over at the YMCA? I've never been there before.

I seem to recall that we parked at La Guardia. Basically, you don't want to bring your vehicle into Manhattan if you can help it.

It's about $80 U.S. for a private single.

Sure... though I think my first choices would be Spamalot or The Producers.
Anyway, lots of time to chew that over!

So it turns out that I'm going to be working in Ottawa the weekend the trip is supposed to happen, so even though I started organizing it, I'm gonna have to bail! I also didn't realize that it's on the U.S. Independence Day weekend, so that might not be the best weekend to go.

Alternate weekend a little later in the summer?

I've also got to backout - I've got a job working weekends now and it won't be easy to get them off :( I'll have to go NYC on my own during the week sometime instead!
