I get the wanderlust Jacob but maybe because of everyone's varied schedule you might want to do an adhoc event for the first few.

Something like:

" I'm driving up to the Bruce Peninsular this Sunday to take photographs anyone want to join me?"

or

" I'm driving down to The Sandbanks this Sunday to take photographs anyone want to join me?"

or ... the list goes on

By the time you have done 2 or three you will have a group of photographers that will want to go on further adventures.

This looks interesting. When I went to Chicago last month I investigated doing something similar in Gary, Indiana. From what i gathered from other forums, for some of these Detroit locations local photogs feel the need to hire off-duty policemen for protection or carry their own firearms.

I've never needed one. I've bumped into scrappers and homeless. Last time I was there I walked out of Packard to find a guy hanging by my car. He was cool just looking to talk. I realized that next time I'll take the Jeep not the Beemer. I've also heard of guys wearing flack jackets when exploring some places.

Don't be shy about your language skills. Read enough forums and you will notice that even locals have problems with the English language. I'm glad you found some folks to travel with. Don't forget to post your shots!

Very nice portfolio! Welcome to TPMG!

Despite english not being your first language, people should apologize to you. Don't feel uncomfortable. There are too many ppl on the forum quick to post inappropriate comments. It's sad that TPMG has become a mob mentality.

Good, good. I'd be in to a trip there - even an overnight if anyone needs someone to watch their back or take a slug for'em.

Looks like you've traveled to a few interesting places that I recognise. Plan as many ad hocs as you want. I'll be sure to join you some day. I need to get out of the city this summer.

Having worked in Detroit for a year the danger is highly over rated except that almost everyone could be carrying a gun. I was driving my soft top at the time (no match for a bullet) The only time I thought I was in trouble was when this big old Buick was following me for a couple of blocks in a "bad" neighbourhood, it turned out he thought that I was lost and wanted to give me directions on how to get out of there fast!

Ok, Philmar. If I have couple of partners, for sure we'll go out at least twice a month. When you're ready to go, just call me before any coming Sunday.

jacob, i'm afraid you still don't get it. there is no "call me" on a forum. "call me" is for craigslist scammers. on a forum you post, get public replies, and everyone knows what goes on

by all means, handle your affairs as you please. i'm just saying you look like a stranger--which is a pity because you are obviously enthusiastic about your plan

Well, I called his number. Jacob was going out this weekend so I went with him and the trip was exactly as he described it. It was a drive in the country along less traveled small country roads hunting for anything that meets the eye. Great way to see the countryside and the route less traveled. We drove around Scugog, Sturgeon and Balsam Lakes along country concession roads at a slow relaxed pace. Jacob is a wonderful lively enthusiast funny gentleman - great company. We stopped at many places that were calm and peaceful - even if they were of little photographic value. Saw herons, water falls, canal locks, mills, we even communed with a herd of curious cows. And corn. Rows upon endless rows of corn without a single field of sunflowers.
Jacob is not so interested in location shooting but finding photographic subjects by accident in out of the way places. So if you want to take a nice trip in the country and hopefully stumble upon something unplanned, unscripted and unexpected then give him a call/PM and you'll have a wonderful time. Sometimes the journey is more interesting than the destination.
Thanks Jacob!!
