So ..... Where to tonight :)

Suppose to be another chance tonight, but given the outcome yesterday, you better drive up to Lake Superior first!

Hi Stephanie, did you hear anything while you were in there if the aurora or meteor thing is still going on tonight? :)

Thanks.

unfortunately... I had to depend on my dad dearest to drive me home. And he's not the youngest sprite out their these days, so I came home early. I got a few decent shots of the observatory while I was up there though. Should have asked people for cell numbers so I could sit with people.

It moved a wee bit between photos... so you can see the telescope-ish in the second.

Hope everyone else has better luck! Was told that Muskoka had a view of the northern lights... so I've got my fingers crossed someone got a wonderful shot.

Was a fun outing even with no Aurora. Stupid solar plasma! Kinda regretting not making a run for the Barrens just in case they were visible there.

According to some people I talked to this morning, even as far north as Parry Sound there was nothing.

Anyhoo, here is the startrail from my a700 last night:

I didn't hear anything about them being open tonight. But probably best check out their website to see if it is!

Here is an article on the event. There's a map there that clearly indicates we were nowhere close to getting some hot plasma action. Who's up for Timmins tonight? :D

Good job on the startrail Chris! I didn't want to shoot one in case the aurora decided to show up.

Might be another night of northern lights. If you're up in the high latitudes though.

Seems that if you don't see anything around midnight then call it a night.

should be clear skies tonight! I've got no ride to go anywhere... and I'm just plain lazy tonight :P

But here's to hoping maybe I'll get a wee bit of a show from home.

This map, at the time of this posting, says if you're going to see any Aurora in ON tonight you better be at least as far north as Thunder Bay. If you want to see colours tonight this far south your best bet is to get some drugs from pebbz or rub your eyes really hard.

Doesn't mean it's not possible to see any, it's just not likely. But some of the best shots come from the most unlikely odds. I'd hate for someone to miss out because of my advice, that said, I'm going to bed shortly.

Actually, the light-blue clearly overlaps Toronto by quite a ways, just at very low power levels. I would read this to say that there is a low probability of aurora overhead, but very good chance of seeing it on the North horizon in an appropriately dark spot away from city lights.

Even last night, there were pictures of the aurora from the Rice Lake/Cobourg area on the other side of Whitby:

and up at Rama:

And from the a900 last night... how to fill an 8 gig card in 2 hours:

Nice job hotwire! I prefer star trail shots that are focused on the North Star.

Very muggy here with fairly complete cloud cover-no aurora to be seen.
