I do realize that there are ride possibilities posted, and I may accept them. However, for many people this is not palatable either. They may not feel comfortable getting into a stranger's car, or (my case) they like to control when they can come and go and not be tied to someone else's schedule.

I stand by my assertion that the most accessible venues to the majority of people are always in the 416 along transit. People with cars can make it to any venue, while people without cars are restricted. So to make the event as open to everyone as possible it should remain in the 416, especially the regular key event that the social is. BTW this doesn't meant downtown, just the 416.

P.S. I'd love to see physical accessibility taken into account as well, my fiance has a disability, but I know this is a tall order.

To go all Katie Couric on everyone, of the last 12 socials including this month, 9 were in Toronto (5 subway accessible, one near a streetcar line and 3 on major TTC bus routes).

Only 3 were outside Toronto, one each in Mississauga, Pickering, and Richmond Hill.

I don't need to re-state what GreatLaker mentioned already but most events are in the GTA with a few outside, more to keep those folks outside of the GTA in mind. And having said that, we will have a social up at the Lone Star in Richmond Hill in the near future again.

BTW, I'll say it again, we can't make everybody happy for every single event we organize. If you don't like it, then there is always the opportunity for you or others to organize the event.

OK, if I set one up, you have to make sure no one jumps at me...

Well you know that we cannot guarantee that. People are old enough to make their own decision and voice their opinion.

Hey all.... looks like our numbers are slowly increasing. Hope we get a few more folks out! It would be nice to see at least 20 folks out. So please confirm if you are a maybe, that way I can phone the restaurant back sometime this week with the final numbers.

Also... if anyone is looking for a ride from Pickering GO Station, I could possibly swing by and pick you up. Let me know, I will be coming from home in Ajax. Thank you all.

Oh, Oh! I'm glad the meet is this Sunday. I'm in suspense now. Along with your bag of tricks, would you be able to bring the Zeiss 24-70? I am thinking of getting one.

Thanks; Ronzo

Hey all,

Looks like we're looking at a small group, only 13? I thought more people would have come out for sure. If you have registered as a maybe, and are intending to come, please change your status! Thank you. See the rest of you on Sunday at 5.

Can offer anyone a ride at the Automotive outing to the social.

Can also drop people at the go Station (Guildwood) in Scarborough, or the subway (Kennedy) in Scarborough from the social.

Thanks David was a good social and event ... And p.s. To those complaining about the location need to put in consideration that not everyone lives in downtown Toronto. If your going to complain don't come .. Theres multiple ways to come to most events aswell as people offering rides .. I live in Pickering so this social was perfect for me .. Some times I can't go but I've been to socials and events way out of the way of Pickering including Orangeville, Downtown and Mississauga .. Many times I've had to bus it at 7am then catch a train and then a street car just to be there for 10 .. SO to go and complain is rediculous. Like the old saying if theres a will theres a way. Aswell as many members offer rides for people when they really don't have too. So before you go and complain like babies don't be lazy theres always a way.

Had fun today .. Thanks for the ride Sue

Sounds like the "lazy" topic was brought up last night.

I think it's pretty arrogant and selfish for you to join a Toronto photography meetup group and then expect everyone to commute to you or be called lazy! That's as asinine as joining the Montreal Photography Meetup Group, and then tell everyone they have to come to Toronto, otherwise they are lazy.

You willingly accepted the sacrifice to commute to Toronto when you joined a Toronto photography club. Many of those who live in the heart of Toronto did not join the club knowing that there would be such expectations of them in reverse. I'm sure they would not have joined had they known.

For the record, I do not object to having socials outside of Toronto. But I do object to the expectation that everyone must make a sacrifice to accommodate those outside of Toronto, otherwise they are lazy.

I absolutely agreed with Pebbz here. I don't understand why must we bus it all the way out just to go to a social or accept rides just because there's a social way outside of Toronto??? It could be quite hectic and I thought when you join an event, it's meant to be fun and if it's no fun then what's the purpose???

I think having location varieties for the socials is a good thing. I personally don't have a problem with some socials being in Toronto and some being outside of Toronto - in the GTA. Even though this is the Toronto Photography Meet-up Group, to me, this encompasses the GTA and other areas in Ontario as well. Would we want to limit other events to Toronto only? Then we would be missing out on the amazing photo opportunities we've had up north, east, west, etc. :)

Hi Folks, unfortunately I didn't make this event...

To make a long story short; I was finishing the final coat of paint in the family room, tupperware container full of paint fell off the ladder aaaand the rest you can probably figure out yourself. Three hours of intense scrubbing and cleaning later, it doesn't even look like anything happened.

Sucks too because I love the Lonestar and I was looking forward to my chicken sandwich... :(

I think Mr Walczak's word choice is not reflective of those in attendance. The decision of whether to come or not to a social is entirely up to the individual. Certainly enough people do their part to offer means of getting to the social, and the go bus solution was pointed out. You merely have to say that you cannot attend. If the attendance is lackluster, the organizers may get the hint that the location is not the best.

Given the weekend I have had, I still made it to the social. News has probably traveled fast as to what my weekend entailed. As a former boss of mine would say (a Lieutenant Colonel): Suck it up, walk it off.

I have made the point on quite an often basis that I have more issue with the choice of restaurant than the location. I want to get out and try new places. Acknowledging the difficulty in getting a group like ours seated, I'm definitely a little Lone Star'd out.

No see I feel it is lazy and thats my personal opinion. Some social I could not attend because of certain issues. Do I go and complain ? no I d my best to get there and if I can't? O well next time . I think its pretty selfish that you people crucify others because they don'y bow to your needs. Like said before half the members on here don't even live downtown. Its the opposite of selfish having socials all throughout the city to in time make it to all areas.. See new things you know? Don't be so close minded when it comes to just staying and doing the same things in Toronto. Oh and btw there is no expectation for people to come and commute .. The event is posted for all members to join and open invite if you can't come thats a shame and obviously sucks because we can't get to know you more but in no way are you expected to come or commute. This sounds so selfish and childish about of adults whining about the location of 1 meet! When there is plenty ways to get there .. If you guys took the time to look at a map you would realize its not that hard to get to this social .. As I posted earlier if your on a subway line its rediculously easy to get there .. You take the subway to either York Mills, Yorkdale, or Scarborough Town center and its one bus from there .. Booohooo. So should we not have events outside of Toronto?? From what I've heard the Orangeville Trip had an abundance of members show up one of the largest amounts? correct me if I'm wrong.

Just because its says TORONTO it does not mean that anyone not living downtown must bow to your needs of who do. Thats considered selfish and arrogant in my books. Theres always adhoc events that can be made if you can't make it or you know the next social or event.

Get off your high horses make an effort if its not easy for you. You should join this forumbecause you love photography and shooting with other people who feel the same .. You need to re evaluate some of your thinking

No no see you got me wrong .. If you can't make it its different if the only reason your not going is because you " have no ride" then its rediculous If i came off calling everyone lazy who didn't come then thats my fault .. To people who complained about not having a ride and it being far I was refering my comment too .. My apologies

Im pretty sure I went to an event Saturday and had to be downtown for 8 am from out of town. Yeah it sucked getting there but I had WAY more fun then I would have sitting on my ass at home. If you want something you have to go out and get it. You come off as a very selfish person maybe its just on here or maybe your naturally like that

Because I don't want to join a social all the way out so I'm a very selfish person? Well, if this is the case, I guess I'm very selfish then.

Mr. Walczak, you may want to re-read some of your posts. In one you're apologizing for potentially being offensive, yet your next post is equally aggressive and offensive. I suspect that overall tone is unnecessary and is certainly different from what I've seen you post in the past.

Let's all take a breather, some people are able to make socials depending on their location, others are not. Some are willing to deal with challenging methods of transportation, others are not. We're all different and that just makes the world a more interesting place.

The next time there is a social out in Mississauga, I will expect you to take public transit from Pickering to Mississauga. See how "easy" it is.

Like I said before, I don't really care if there are socials outside of Toronto. What I object to is attitudes like yours towards those who choose to opt out. They should not be called lazy because they refuse to take a 3 hr public transit ride and do not trust taking rides from strangers.

If your beef is people complaining about socials that do not meet their needs, then stick to that fact. But you go further than that to the point of insulting people.
