I was thinking about the Tim's on Airport Rd. But what are the chances of that runway being used?

At what point on Britannia Road does public access stop? I'm looking at Google Maps and Britannia Road goes right into the airport. Can we access Courtney Park Dr.?

Never mind, I was having refresh issue, found my answer.

Yes can access it from Courtney Park. You'll see easily enough where you can go and where you can't go (signs saying authorized vehicles only, fences, etc.)

One really needs a scanner to listen to the tower or listen over your smartphone as there is streaming audio from here:

Cool, thanks.

I'll bring my laptop and my Rogers Internet Stick to listen in. I still only have a dumb cellphone.

I have one, but won't be easy using a circular polarizer on my lens while it's rotating to autofocus on fast moving jets, I'll give it a try today.

Man you are quick. I just had enough time to download mine. Machine gun shooting has its drawbacks too. over 2000 shots to sort.
just one for now.

I shot 2,438 pics but I left you guys at 3:30 so I had plenty of time to edit the ones I wanted.

I got there a bit late. Most of my close-up pics turned out-of-focus. I was using "AI-Servo" (Canon), also I have a slow lens (100-300 5.6). I plan to go back on Monday. I would appreciate if you have any pointers how to improve.

Here are a couple which turned out just OK.

Using the continuous autofocus, track the subject for a few seconds at least so the camera can get a good lock.

Eddie... where were you at the park? Mind you I didn't really go and look for you as I got there around 12:10. I was just south of the traffic lights at british columbia road and lakeshore. Did bump into StephenG there or should I say he seen me LOL.

Set of pics from the show: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tanm/sets/ ... 260057132/

Gonna try and get out on a boat tomorrow hopefully! :)

Tanner,

I was with Eddie for the photoshoot and we were located off jameson Drive. and the show tent area. I would say near the entrance to the breakwater.

Here's one I took while staying at the Westin Harbour Castle.

Ah just a bit further west from where I was.

So near the entrance to the breakwater, where those kayakers kept on entering and getting told to get back to dry land? :)

Have to say, that's probably the worst lighting scenario to shoot these things, with most of the action to the south and with the sun above and behind the planes!

That spot yesterday was the best and definitely worth getting up early. I was a little trigger happy yesterday  , and have about 2500 shots to go through between 2 cameras. I agree what was mentioned earlier about the back lighting situation. I should have attempted to have the cameras on complete manual settings. Oh well, till next year.

Here a few of what I've managed to get through so far:

So today I was out doing my annual fishing thing with my dad on Lake Ontario from the Humber river. Got a good pedestrian view of the planes, but didn't bring my camera this year because trying to pan from a moving boat is next to impossible.

I'm planning on going down tomorrow (Monday). Where's everyone going to be hanging out?

Oh, and what lens to bring?

Challenge shooting manual is when you shoot to the south then to the north quickly. Can't change the settings fast enough so I just locked the shutter speed. A bit slower for the props and fast as possible for the jets.

You will certainly need a decent lens. I shot with my 70-300 and it did a pretty good job. the lighting conditions really sucked especially with all the smoke that was generated....not sure what I am doing? I though of attempting the airshow again...?? don't know though...

This is ME we're talking about... :). It is not a means of possessing a decent lens as it is which one to bring?

70-200/2.8 + TC's?
300/2.8 + TC's?
500/8 Reflex (AF)?

eddie was shooting with a 50-500mm Sigma lens...so a 500mm would certainly work as well as the TC and 70-200

Damn, I knew I should of relocated to the other side of the runway. The spot I was at was to far away from the runway for my 70-200. Oh, well there is always next year.

I stopped at the Wendy's then moved over to Bramalea Rd then moved back to Wendy's again since they were taking off west to east. You can try again on Monday.

Kind of disappointed with what I got this year, especially since I got VIP tix and had prime location seating (though, the concrete in front of the seats was much better).

Sure, the backlighting and haze were a problem, but so was the photographer :( Shooting at -.7ev 'cause for some reason I was worried about highlights... should have been +.7ev to cover the dynamic range. All the level adjustments I had to make in post gave me very little to work with :(

I have a feeling I won't be able to go back on Monday, so I guess I'll have to try again next year :(

Oh yeah, and losing my cell on the bus... that didn't bode well either :P

Thanks. Here is the F-16 over Airport Rd. The pilot kept it very low and loud. Only cropped to remove a light pole.
